An Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release stated that SFs conducted search operations in Pul Bela near Bahrain, Kuz Bama Khela, Mera Mai, Muz Durshkhela, Langar, Mashkomai and Chiakolai and killed four militants in the gunbattle. Three militants were arrested and a cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from their possession. The SFs also conducted search operations at Panr, Allahabad, Titawali, Dakorak, and Chbaghand Fazagat and arrested a militant.

They said more than 30 Taliban militanst attacked the Ghanam Shah checkpost in Bezai tehsil (revenue unit) of Mohmand Agency. The slain soldier was identified as Gul Shireen. Six troopers were also injured in the attack. “They came from three sides and attacked the post with automatic weapons and rocket launchers,” said a local administration official, Zabit Khan. He put the number of injured troops at three. A military official confirmed the casualties and said four Taliban militants had been killed in the Security Forces’ retaliation.

The attack took place as the militia men manned a security post in the Bazai section of Mohmand, 70 kilometres away from Agency headquarters. The militants attacked the checkpost in the Daag area and killed a volunteer, Hazratullah Khan. The volunteers retaliated and killed three militants and injured two others. District Police Officer (DPO) Waqaruddin said the suicide attacks took place at around 9:30 am (PST). He said two suicide bombers tried to enter Mansehra Police Station. A suicide bomber hit one Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) parked on the entrance to the Hospital Road, which hosts the US Consulate General as well as several offices of the Pakistan Army around 1.20 pm (PST). “The first suicide bomber exploded his car near the APC at the entry point to the Hospital Road after which unknown number of attackers coming in a double cabin pick-up drove towards the gate of the US Consulate while opening fire,” Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP)-Operations Karim Khan said. The Deputy City Police Chief said another suicide bomber blew himself up hardly 20 feet away from the main gate of the US Consulate on the Hospital Road after the attackers failed to enter the building. He said the gate of the consulate was partially damaged in the blast. Those killed included two Frontier Crops officials, one Frontier Reserved Policeman and two passers-by, while three bodies could not be identified. According to SSP-Operations, around 20 kilograms of explosives were used in the first suicide attack while around 100 kilograms were used in the second one outside the main gate of the consulate. He was not sure about the nature of the third blast. The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was in reaction to the US drone attacks.

Reports said the attack was an attempt to free a militant, Muaz, who was under treatment at the hospital after being arrested following May 28’s attacks on an Ahmedis’ prayer facility in Model Town’s C-block. The militants, who were in Police uniform, entered the emergency ward of Jinnah Hospital after killing two security guards and two Police officials manning the main gate. The assailants then entered the emergency ward from three sides firing indiscriminately. The attackers also took several patients, doctors and paramedics hostage. They also disrupted the hospital’s electricity supply system by firing at the power controls. They attempted to get their accomplice released but failed, killing the security personnel guarding Muaz before escaping. Meanwhile, Police contingents also arrived at the hospital, retaliatory fire was started from the militants hiding on various floors of the hospital’s emergency ward. Subsequently, commandos from the Elite Force and armoured vehicles were called in to deal with the situation. Police launched a clearance operation and reportedly arrested two of the terrorists in injured condition.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), three suicide bombers blew themselves up in vain when they were challenged by guards deployed outside the training area of the Punjab Regiment centre in Mardan. Two terrorists providing cover to the suicide bombers were also killed in an exchange of fire with troops, in which four of the officials were also injured. Another two terrorists covering the attackers are still missing and security forces cordoned off the area to apprehend the absconding terrorists, the ISPR said. Sources said that more then a dozen militants launched the attack on the building around 4.30 pm (PST). FC trooper Sabir Khattak and two unidentified militants were killed in the exchange of fire. A third militant was injured. The Bara Press Club was closed in September 2009 due to the military operation in the area. Since then the club building was being used as a security post. In August 2010, the militants had tried to blow up the building.
