A Frontier Corps (FC) official and a Policeman were killed while one FC sustained injuries during an exchange of fire in Chatkan Bazaar of Panjgur District on January 7, reported The News. A handout issued by the FC said that the FC had received information about presence of a militants involved in attacking Security Forces in Chatkan Bazaar. “An FC patrolling team reached the site to arrest the suspect who ran into a street adjacent to the bazaar. The FC team chased the suspect, and during that time, two persons riding a motorcycle tried to halt FC personnel in order to provide a chance to the accused to escape. The two persons opened fire on FC team injuring one FC personnel, Muhammad Akhtar, seriously,” said a spokesman for the FC.

Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Karachi Police on January 9 (today) claimed killing a trio of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants in Manghopir area of Gadap Town in Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh, reports The News. "The Policemen, who busted a terrorist hideout in Manghopir area, following a promising lead, were met with heavy armed resistance", said Chaudhry Aslam, a senior CID official. The suspected militants, who were armed to the teeth fought with the Police fiercely and exhausted all their ammunition, which let the CID take charge, Aslam said, adding, “The shots fired by the cops left the terrorists seriously wounded and they were immediately rushed to a hospital where they were pronounced dead".

Three Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants were killed in an alleged Police encounter within the jurisdiction of Mauripur Police Station in Musharraf Colony of Baldia Town in Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh on January 10, reports The Express Tribune. The dead were identified as Mirza Ali (45), allegedly the TTP Amir (chief) for Ittehad Town; Sher Muhammad (35), allegedly the TTP Amir for Landhi Town, and Amanullah (22). Police claimed that they were patrolling near Musharraf Colony where the three suspects were waiting by a motorcycle. The terrorists allegedly opened fire when Police began to ask them questions. The Police retaliated, killing all three suspects. “They were terrorist and belonged to TTP,” Mauripur Police Station official Khan Muhammad claimed. Police recovered the motorcycle and weapons, including a hand grenade, a Kalashnikov and a pistol.

As per details, the encounter took place when at least four armed gangsters came and opened indiscriminate firing at a police mobile stationed in the said area. Two of the attackers were killed in police retaliatory firing. Station House Officer (SHO) Idress Bangash claimed that the suspects were associated with Sheraz Comrade group of Lyari gangsters, and were involved in a number of cases, including killings of a CID officer, extortion and kidnapping-for-ransom.

A suspected Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) ‘commander’, identified as Shakir Bhittani along with an Aman (peace) committee member, Wahid Jan were killed during a clash in Kari Hyder Khel village of Tank District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) in the night of February 5, The Express Tribune reported on February 8. A Security Force (SF) official was also injured in the incident. SFs and Aman committee members carried out a joint raid on the house of Bhittani, who opened fire after seeing his house surrounded. A firefight ensued in which Bhittani and Wahid Jan, were killed. Bhittani was said to be associated with the Bahawal Khan Bhittani faction of TTP, linked with the Haqqani network.

Three people were killed in the Malir Town of Karachi (Karachi District), the provincial capital of Sindh, on February 10, reported Daily Times. Police said that two extortionists came to the meat market at Malir 15 and demanded money from a shopkeeper, who refused to pay and instead opened fire on the extortionists. During the exchange of fire from both sides, an extortionist died on the spot while two passers-by, identified as Karim and Haji Noor Mohammad, were also killed in the incident. Official sources said that the militants had fired bullet rounds and mortars from the adjoining mountains at a weapons depot situated inside the fort that is controlled by the SFs. The residents heard several explosions caused by the exchange of fire between the militants and the SFs. Some of the locals added that they had seen flames rising high from the fort. According to sources, some unspecified numbers of suicide bombers were reported to be among the attackers. In a statement issued by TTP ‘spokesman’ Shahidullah Shahid said Hasan, who hailed from Kabul, was killed in clashes in Boya area of NWA. The statement added that Hasan had recently been released from an Afghan prison and had "reunited with his comrades" in Pakistan. The TTP also claimed that the clash in Boya began when local Taliban, Mehsud fighters and the TTP launched a collective attack on Pakistan Army personnel, adding that it caused significant losses to the military. According to details, on a tip-off about the presence of TTP 'commander' Khan Zaman Mehsud and his associates in Sohrab Goth, Police took action. Seeing the Police, the militants opened fire which was retaliated. The police after a brief shootout said they managed to arrest 13 militants in injured condition who later succumbed to their injuries, while their 'commander' Khan Mehsud with some of his aides fled under the cover of fire. In addition, the Police claimed to have arrested a would-be suicide bomber who was wearing a suicide jacket and had failed to explode himself. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rao Mohammed Anwar of District Malir said the Police arrested a suicide bomber. During the search of their hideout, the Police recovered three Kalashnikovs, four TT pistols, two repeater rifles, one sniper rifle, three 9mm pistols, five kilograms of explosives, 10 kilograms of ball bearings and hundreds of bullets from their possession. SSP further said that four of the 13 terrorists were wearing Police uniforms. He said two of the terrorists belonged to al Qaeda while the others TTP militants. A militant was killed in a clash with the Security Forces (SFs) in Ghundi area of Jamrud tehsil (revenue unit) in Khyber Agency on December 31, reports The News. Sources said that a group of militants attacked a checkpost in Ghundi area. The SFs repulsed the attack and killed a militant identified as Fazlur Rehman in the ensuing clash. The sources said that another militant, who sustained injuries in the clash, managed to escape from the scene.

Three Policemen were killedin a clash with militants near the mountainous areas of Katkala and Shoprang in Swat District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on December 31, reports The News. The sources said the Police were tipped off about the presence of militants in the Katkala and Shoprang areas. A Police party reached the area and launched a search operation to locate the militants. The militants attacked the Police and killed three cops identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector Waris Khan and constables Taj Muhammad and Ghani Rehman in the clash. Station House Officer of Jawar Police Station Noorul Anwar sustained injuries in the clash.
