The bullet riddled dead bodies of three abducted oil tanker drivers were recovered on Torkham Bypass Road in Khyber Agency of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) on January 19, reports Dawn. The dead bodies of Ishtiaq, Abdul Wali and Salim were found at the roadside. All the slain drivers belonged to Jandakhel tribe of Kata Kushta in Jamrud tehsil (revenue unit). “The three drivers were shot in their heads from a close range with their hands tied at their back,” an unnamed official said. He said that three letters, written in Pashto and Urdu, were also found with the bodies. The letters threatened transporters to stop supplying oil and other goods to NATO forces in Afghanistan, he added. “Anyone dares do so would meet the same fate,” he quoted the letter, which was without the name and stamp of any militant organisation. As reported earlier, the slain drivers were abducted by unidentified militants near Landi Kotal Bazaar (Market) on January 6 along with four other drivers. It was also reported that one of the abducted drivers, Mushtaq, was killed on January 17. The whereabouts of the rest three drivers is yet not ascertained.

A former Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) official, Sultan Ameer Tarar alias Colonel Imam, who was reported to have been killed by militants who abducted him on March 26, 2010, is alive and in the custody of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in North Waziristan Agency (NWA) in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), Times of India quoting a media report reported on February 15. The militants have demanded PKR 50 million and the release of some of their jailed militants in return for Colonel Imam’s freedom, adds Express Tribune. It is reported that the militants are not executing Colonel Imam because of his close links with Afghan Taliban ‘chief’ Mullah Omar. Colonel Imam, along with another former ISI official Squadron Leader Khawaja Khalid and British journalist Asad Qureshi, was captured by TTP while travelling in the NWA on March 26, 2010, on the suspicion of spying for American Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to guide drone attacks in the region. Qureshi was released in September 2010 after paying a ransom of PKR 20 million, while Khawaja was executed by his captors.
