A Frontier Constabulary (FCB) official, identified as Wahid Mir, was killed and three other FC personnel were injured in a roadside bomb explosion in the Regi Lalma Housing Scheme area of Peshawar (Peshawar District) on January 6, reported The Express Tribune. Soon after the attack, Police conducted a search operation and arrested some suspected militants. A Police official said, “Being close to Khyber Agency, the area provides militants a golden opportunity to escape to the tribal areas safely after such attacks.”

Three suspected militants were killed while five others arrested by the Security Forces (SFs) during a search operation in Zaidi area of Khuzdar District in Balochistan on January 15, reports The News. Deputy Commissioner Syed Abdul Waheed Shah said that the security forces and Levies force had been conducting a joint search operation in Zaidi area when armed men opened fire on them. The SFs returned the fire, killing three suspects. They also arrested five suspects. Two security men also sustained injuries. One abducted person and heavy weapons including ammunitions were also recovered from the possession of the suspects.

The sources said unknown persons had planted explosives near the Police checkpost in Daowat area, which exploded as soon as two cops reached there for duty. The two Policemen, identified as Nisar Ahmed and Khan Bahadur sustained injuries. The Police launched search operation in the nearby areas after the blast. Six more Policemen were injured when their vehicle was targeted with an improvised explosive device (IED) in Sarkol area. The sources said the cops were on their way to Sarkol for search operation.

Rangers shot dead five alleged terrorists near Afghan Basti in Sohrab Goth area of Gadap Town and in Ittehad Town of Baldia Town in Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh on February 16, reported The News. A Rangers Spokesperson said that two terrorists attacked a vehicle of the Paramilitary Force on Super Highway near Afghan Basti. In the ensuing gun battle, Rangers killed the two militants. Later the Paramilitary Force conducted a search operation in Mohammad Khan Colony, Ittehad Town, during which they were attacked. The terrorist fired gunshots at the soldiers and also attacked with a grenade injuring one of them. Three terrorists were killed in the encounter.

According to sources, 15 militants were killed in the Mir Ali area while five were killed in the Shawal area. It was reported that the militant hideouts were completely destroyed. Earlier it was reported that six militants were killed. The SFs also detained five suspects in a search operation conducted in connection with the attack targeting the Samungli airbase. Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Ghalib Mehsud faction claimed responsibility for the attack on the Airbases in Quetta. Ghalib Mehsud is the leader of Fidayeen-e-Islam which is the suicide wing of TTP. Commander Southern Command, Lieutenant General Nasir Khan Janjua said, "They all seemed to be foreign nationals." A press release by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on September 3 said that 910 militants had been killed in the operation Zarb-e-Azb that was launched in North Waziristan Agency (NWA) of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) on June 15, reports The News. ISPR stated that since the start of operation 82 soldiers had embraced martyrdom in the entire country in the fight against terrorism and another 269 were injured. The 82 martyred soldiers include 42 in NWA, 23 in rest of FATA other than NWA and 17 in the remaining parts of the country, including Balochistan and Karachi. The ISPR said 88 kilometers long road, Khajuri-Mir Ali-Miranshah-Dattakhel, and the Gharyom-Jhallar road had been cleared. It stated that the Security Forces (SFs) had cleared five town including Miranshah, Mir Ali, Dattakhel, Boya and Degan, which were considered the strongholds of terrorists. As many as 27 factories making improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and rocket and ammunition factories had also been destroyed, it stated. It said a huge cache of arms and ammunition, communication equipment and other logistics facilities used by terrorists had been destroyed, uprooting their ability to attack as a coherent force. It said that 2,274 Intelligence-led coordinated counter terrorism operations had been carried out throughout the country to forestall any blowback of the operation. With regard to the relief work for the internally displaced persons (IDPs), the press release said that about 19,376 tons ration had been distributed among 97,570 IDP families at six relief distribution points in Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan and Tank. The ISPR said about 113,209 patients including 32,979 females had been treated at field medical hospitals established by the Army Medical Corps at Khalifa Gul Nawaz Hospital in Bannu. It stated that about 32,226 cattle had been treated whereas 73,338 cattle and 12,9141 poultry had been vaccinated.

The Frontier Corps (FC) during a search operation on December 25 arrested seven Baloch Liberation Front (BLF) militants near the coastal highway in Chakwali and Shadi Khor in Gwadar District, reports The Express Tribune. According to the FC statement, officials seized three Chinese-made automatic weapons, one pistol, two 8-MM Rifles, one 12-bore Rifle and 600 rounds of different caliber. An FC spokesperson said, “FC had recovered a huge quantity of arms and ammunition (during the raid),” adding, “These militants were involved in the deadly attack on a trailer carrying fertiliser from Gwadar to Karachi. One man was killed and an official of Pakistan Navy among three sustained bullet wounds in the attack.”

Police claimed to have arrested 13 suspects, including Afghans, during a search operation in the limits of Shaheed Haibat Ali Khan Police Station of Darra Pezu town of Lakki Marwat District on December 26, reported The News. An unnamed official said that Afghans were among the arrested men and that they were shifted to the Police Station for identification and interrogation. “Cases were also registered against the possessors of illegal arms and ammunition,” he added. In addition, an unnamed official source said on December 26 said that the authorities have compiled a list of around 135 suspects who are to be arrested for supporting militancy and terrorism, reports The News. The source said that the list has been sent to the concerned District Police Officers for action. The source said that these suspects would be held in the coming few days for supporting militants. Most of those on the list belong to Dera Ismail Khan and Kohat Districts of the Province, the source added.

One Security Force (SFs) personnel was killed while two others were severely injured on December 30 in two separate Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blasts in Qandharo area of Safi tehsil (revenue unit) in Mohmand Agency of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), reports The Express Tribune. An official of the political administration in Ghallanai said that a couple of security officials were bringing water back from a nearby spring when an IED went off near them. Following this, the SFs launched a search operation in the area. Meanwhile, another IED planted in the locality also exploded, killing Lance Naik Gulzar Khan on the spot. Jama’at-ul-Ahrar (JuA) claimed responsibility for the blast. The JuA 'spokesman' Ehsanullah Ehsan, in an email sent to newspapers said that cadres of the JuA had carried out the attack.

The sources said the Police were tipped off about the presence of militants in the Katkala and Shoprang areas. A Police party reached the area and launched a search operation to locate the militants. The militants attacked the Police and killed three cops identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector Waris Khan and constables Taj Muhammad and Ghani Rehman in the clash.
