Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protests that had blocked the NATO supplies almost came to an unannounced end on January 1, reported The News. The party has wound up four out of five protest camps set up in Nowshera, Dera Ismail Khan and Kohat Districts and at Peshawar Motorway Toll Plaza. Container-mounted trucks were hardly stopped to ascertain their destination. The party, however, officially denies it and insists it is as committed as it was in disallowing NATO supplies through Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Several protestors were injured when Police resorted to baton-charge and tear gassing of demonstrators protesting over the missing persons issue at D-Chowk in Islamabad on April 28, reports Dawn. The protesters were attempting to approach the Parliament house in Islamabad's Red Zone area. Police resorted to baton-charging and aerial firing and also fired tear gas canisters to disperse the demonstrators as a result of which several persons fell unconscious. The resultant clash also left six Police personnel, including two women and four men, wounded. Human Rights activist and campaigner on the missing persons issue, Amna Masood Janjua, was also arrested by Police. Police tried to confiscate the cameras and other equipment of media teams trying to cover the incident. Television channels aired footage of several journalists who were wounded and had their equipment damaged due to the use of force by security personnel. Meanwhile, taking notice of the incident, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif ordered the authorities concerned to release the detained protesters at the earliest. He said protesting peacefully was every citizen's fundamental right which cannot be taken away from them. He also ordered the authorities to look into the incident and punish the culprits of manhandling rights activists and journalists with an iron hand.

The elders of North Waziristan Agency (NWA) in Federally Administrative Tribal Areas (FATA) on August 21 warned that they will march on Islamabad and observe a protest sit-in outside Parliament if they are forced to vacate school buildings before August 30 according to the Government’s decision, reports Dawn. NWA Peace Committee Chief Haji Sher Mohammad told a press conference at Peshawar Press Club that about one million people had been displaced due to military operation in the tribal agency, but the Federal Government had failed to provide them adequate shelter in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Flanked by other members of the peace body, including Malik Noor Rahman Dawar, Fazal Khan Wazir, Saad Shah and Fazal Ghafar Wazir, the tribal elder said that they could not believe in the hollow claims of the government and would protest for provision of basic facilities and proper shelter if they were forced to vacate school buildings in parts of Bannu and other Districts. Malik Noor Rehman said that almost 25,000 displaced families had been accommodated in various Government schools in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, but now they had received a notice to vacate the schools before August 30. He said that it was a great injustice with IDPs and they could not tolerate it. He said that FATA Disaster Management Authority (FDMA) had set up a helpline to solve the problems being faced by IDPs, but there was no one to respond to the callers.

However, these elements are part of Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri’s ‘revolutionaries’ and not Imran Khan’s crowd, dreaming to have a ‘new Pakistan’. “They are armed with axes, wooden batons, nails, hammers, cutters and slingshots. I know there was confusion about that yesterday.” Psaki said that the US was in contact with the Pakistani Government, however, America was not involved in any sort of internal political decision pertaining to the ongoing protest, and it was not a part of the negotiation process at all.
