Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres killed an alleged ‘police informer’, Sonalal Hansdah, in the busy market area at Harladih, 30 kilomteres from the District headquarters of Giridih on January 28, reports The Times of India. According to Police, a group of about 40 Maoists entered the market and caught Sonalal in the busy market. They slit his neck with sharp weapons and left a leaflet, claiming he was a ‘police informer’. The Maoists shouted slogans, warning they would physically liquidate those having nexus with the Police in open public places. They stayed in the market for an hour.

Suspected Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres have killed a man in Malkangiri District of Odisha, on March 4, reports The Times of India. Home guards spotted the body lying in a pool of blood near Kiang under Mathili Police Station limits around 3 am on March 4. While Maoist posters spotted near the body revealed that the deceased was punished as he was working as a Police informer, but going by the modus operandi of the murder, Police suspect it to be a handiwork of some miscreants. Commenting on the matter, Superintendent of Police (SP) Akhileswar Singh said "We suspect that some miscreants have executed the crime and tried to give it a Maoist angle to divert Police attention." According to the SP, the letters, written by Kanker Division of the Maoists, were recovered from the crime spot, whereas Dharba Division and Malkangiri Division of the banned outfit operate in the area.

Alleging that he was a Police informer, Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres shot dead a tribal Sarpanch (head of Panchayat, village level local self-Government institution), Bhagaban Kirsani (38), in Malkangiri District in the night of April 2, reports The Hindu. His bullet ridden body was located on the outskirts of Kurmanur village under Kalimela Police Station limits the morning. Kirsani happened to be the Sarpanch of Kurmanur Panchayat of Kalimela block. According to sources, Paplur Dalam (squad) of the Andhra-Orissa Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC) of the CPI-Maoist claimed responsibility for the murder through a handwritten poster left near the body.

However, they released two others who were abducted along with the panchayat member. The body of Budha Dharua, naib sarpanch (deputy head of village level local self-government institution) of Mahupadar village, was found on a forest road with his throat slit. The Maoists had abducted Dharua and two others from Mahupadar village on May 1 night. While Dharua was believed to have been killed last night on the suspicion of being a Police informer, the other two -- Buduram Nayak and Mansai Karla - were released by them.

The bodies of Ramesh Kabasi (40) and Naresh Madhi (33) were found near Vejangwada under Kalimela Police Station limits. A group of about 15 armed Maoists had abducted them from their houses in the previous night. According to Malkangiri Superintendent of Police (SP) Akhileswar Singh, the Maoists slit the throats of the victims. The Kalimela dalam (squad) of the CPI-Maoist, in a handwritten poster left at the spot, claimed responsibility for the double murder. Sources said four Maoists fired on Balaram Dalai (40) from close range at Kumbhariput village. "They reached the village on two motorcycles and pumped bullets into Dalai, who was standing near his house," said the source. Confirming the incident, Police said Dalai was under Maoist scanner for the past few years. The Maoists reportedly left a letter near the body in which they have accused Dalai of working for Police. Madhi’s bullet wound body was located near Sangel village in the morning. Through a statement Maoists claimed that this murder and their other acts of violence in December in Malkangiri District were mark of protest against the encounter at Silakota on September 24, in which 13 Maoists had been killed. Madhi was a village level leader and was the secretary of local pani Panchayat (local body for distribution of water). He had been abducted by Maoists on December 27 from Sangel village. According to locals, Madhi had been produced before a ‘parja court’ (people’s court, euphemism for Kangaroo court) where he was ‘sentenced’ to death for being a Police informer.
