A heavily armed group of Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres on January 1 killeda former intelligence unit ‘chief’ of the Maoists, identified as Shivaji Korsa at Kottapal village in Bijapur District, who had surrendered before Police in 2012, reports The Hindu. Korsa was working as a “Gopaniya Sainik” (Secret agent) for Chhattisgarh Police and was shot in his head from a close range by the Maoists. They also slit his throat. The incident took place when Korsa and his friends had gathered for a New Year party.

The Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres killed a contractor, identified as Laxmi Patnaik (23), at a weekly market in Trilochanpur under Lanjigarh Police Station in Kalahandi District on February 3, reports The Pioneer. Some posters left by the killers claimed that Patnaik was a ‘Police Informer’. According to Kalahandi Superintendent of Police (SP) Brijesh Kumar Rai, two armed people in plain clothes reached the village market and searched for Patnaik, who was present there. Then, they threatened people not to oppose to their act. They dragged Patnaik away and shot at him from close rang killing him on the spot.

The Maoists killed Parsa by slitting his throat. Police sources stated that Parsa had earlier opposed Maoists. He was a vociferous Maoist detractor who also opposed the rebels entering village.

Armed Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres hacked a villager to death in Pallahara of Angul District on February 12 suspecting him to be a ‘police informer’, reports The New Indian Express. The villagers said a group of armed Maoists stormed into Pattamundai village and took away Samuel Bhadra after locking his family members in a room. They then hacked Bhadra to death and fled to nearby forest. The Maoists left behind eight posters which stated that Bhadra was eliminated as he was a police informer. They claimed that one of their leaders was killed by police on information provided by Bhadra. Angul Superintendent of Police Rajesh Pandit Uttam Rao confirmed that Bhadra was not a police informer.

Three members of a family, identified as Balkishore Shahdeo, Jal Kishore Shahdeo and Pramod, have been killed allegedly by the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres at Murmu village in Lohardaga District on March 21, reports Zee News. The family was on a hunting trip when they were kidnapped from Sahedpat village. Their bodies were found early on March 22 morning near Marayan forest under the Jowang Police Station limits. Maoist sources claimed they were killed because they were police informers. “The Shahdeos resisted Left-Wing Extremists since they entered the area in 1991,” said Lohardaga Superintendent of Police (SP) Manoj Ratan Chothe. The Shahdeos were landowners and of royal lineage, which made them a target for the Maoists.

The body was found in a field at Wakil Ganj on April 1, Madanpur police station SHO said. The victim was identified as Mukhtiyar Bhuyan (33) of Chalidhor village. Bhuyan was allegedly warned by Maoists earlier Aurangabad Superintendent of Police (SP) Babu Ram said a piece of paper with 'TPC (Tritya Prastuti Committee) — police informer' written on it was recovered from the body.

The Maoists abducted Ravindra, son of the Police patil (coordinator between police and public) of the village, on the suspicion that he was a ‘Police informer’ on May 16. Police said that Ravindra had been indeed working as a Special Police Officer (SPO) between 20013 and September 2014. Around 15 armed Maoists had taken him away from his house. Police then launched a search operation, during which there was an exchange of fire with the Maoists in a forest near village Asha and some Maoists were injured. A leaflet left behind by the Maoists at the spot termed the Naib Sarpanch Alekh Majhi as a ‘police informer’. Around six Maoists, including two women cadres, descended on Dhourakhaman village under Bagdor panchayat at night when the Naib Sarpanch along with his brother-in-law Kanjita Majhi was returning from their brick kiln located about 100 metres away. The Maoists took both to the outskirts of the village and assaulted them. Later, the Maoists dragged the duo to the centre of the village and held a Kangaroo court. They accused the Naib Sarpanch of being a ‘Police informer’, resorting to irregularities in distribution of Public Distribution System (PDS) rice and demanding bribe from beneficiaries for houses under Indira Awas Yojna (IAY). After the hearing was over, the Maoists pronounced death for Majhi. They tied Majhi’s hands and took him to the outskirts of the village where he was shot twice, leaving him dead. The Maoists also pasted leaflets, both handwritten and printed on the walls of the houses and warned village headman Hemsagar Majhi (55) of refraining from anti-social activities.

Cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) allegedly killed an adivasi (tribal), identified as V. Satya Rao, (55), in G. Madugula mandal in Visakhapatnam District of Andhra Pradesh on December 21, after branding him a police informer, reports The Hindu. The killing also marked the beginning of the week-long bandh (general shutdown strike) in the Agency area from December 21, called by the Andhra-Orissa Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC) of the CPI-Maoist, protesting against the Government move to mine bauxite in the Jerela area. As per reports, a team of the Maoists picked up V. Satya Rao from Madathakonda village under G. Madugula Police Station limits in the previous night and reportedly killed him after taking him to some interior part in the Agency area. Before leaving the village, the Maoists branded him as police informer and warned the villagers to stay away from the Police and officials who were supporting bauxite mining in the Jerela area. According to Police, the body of Satya Rao was sighted between Madigaruvu and Kilamkota village in G. Madugula area, but it was yet to be recovered. “The body will be retrieved on Tuesday morning,” said a senior police officer, engaged in combing operation in the region.
