Telangana Police unearthed and defused landmines allegedly planted by cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) to target Security Forces (SFs), near Penugolu village in Wazeedu Mandal (administrative sub-division) in Khammam District of Telangana on February 7, reports english.newstracklive.com. An official press release read, "Top officials of the government-banned Maoist party militia members with arms plotted a plan to assassinate the Police party, according to reliable information received by Mulugu police. They buried landmines in the reserve forest and hid the explosives and equipment." On February 7, officers found suspected electrical wires while investigating the area with the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS), which led to the discovery of landmines, and later on, the BDS promptly took steps and defuse the landmines.
