On December 19, a programme was held at the auditorium of Christian HS School in Dimapur (District) of Nagaland calling for the repeal of Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA), reports Northeast Now. 16 different organisations under the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) in the programme unanimously called for repeal of the AFSPA in Nagaland as well as in the entire northeast region while seeking justice to the victims of the firing incidents. The organisations also urged the Naga political groups to shed their differences and take positive steps to reconcile, unite in purpose and cooperate in the common interest of the shared Naga historical and political rights.
Earlier, on December 17, thousands of people marched from Kohima town to Raj Bhavan in Kohima District in the rally organised by Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) to protest against the killing of 14 civilians in Mon district on December 4-5 and demanding the repeal of AFSPA, reports East Mojo. A memorandum was also submitted to the Prime Minister through the Governor’s office through which NSF demanded immediate justice for the Oting victims and expedite judgement and delivery of justice in all pending cases related to excesses committed by the Indian Armed Forces upon Nagas, immediate repeal of the draconian Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 and to expedite the Naga Political Solution.
