On February 29, a man killed in Pyrkan area of East Khasi Hills District of Meghalaya during the ethnic clashes, taking the total fatality count to three, reports East Mojo. Earlier on the same day another individual was also killed in clashes (at Bara Bazar in Shillong in East Khasi Hills District). Eight companies of central armed police forces (CAPF) have already been deployed to control the prevailing law-and-order situation on March 1. Meanwhile, Internet services remain suspended in six Districts of Meghalaya --- East Jaintia Hills, West Jaintia Hills, East Khasi Hills, Ri Bhoi, West Khasi Hills and South West Khasi Hills Districts. Curfew was re-imposed at Lumdienjiri and Sadar areas of Shillong on March 1. The death toll has risen to three since the clashes began between two groups at Ichamati under Shella constituency in East Khasi Hills District.
Nagaland postadds that the third victims name was Uphas Uddin. In Shillong (East Khasi Hills) assailants hurled a petrol bomb at the residential compound of one Lakshmi Bareh at Pynthorbah.
Northeast Nowadds that 10 non-tribals were stabbed by miscreants in Shillong in East Khasi Hills District. Additionally, eight non-indigenous people were arrested in connection with the killing of Khasi youth who was killed on March 28. The arrestees were identified as Sushan Das, Ranjit Baidya, Bijit Baidya, Kanal Baidya,Sajol Das, Joy Sharma, Indramohan Sharma and Rajesh Sharma.
The Shillong Timesadds that mobile internet was suspended for 48 hours from March 1. The mobile internet ban was initially imposed on February 29.
Additionally, on March 1, Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) has issued an ultimatum to all the Hindu-Bengalis to leave Ichamati and Majai areas at Shella in East Khasi Hills within one-month reports Northeast Now. In a statement issued by ‘publicity secretary’ Sainkupar Nongtraw in a statement said “If they fail to do so by not complying to our ultimatum then we shall not be made responsible in case of any eventuality. This time it shall be a mass bloodshed”.
