Two local militants of Al-Badr were killed in 19-hour long gun battle in Kanigam area in Shopian District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in India on December 26, reports Daily Excelsior. The two militants were identified as Owais Farooq son of Farooq Ahmad Allaie, resident of Kadlabal Chersoo Awantipora who was missing since August 8 this year and Aasif Ahmad Lone son of Ghulam Mohammed Lone resident of Turkawangam Shopian who was missing from last week of June this year. Two soldiers were also injured in the initial exchange of firing, are out of danger. As per Police records, both the killed militants were part of the group involved in several activities including attacks on Security Forces and civilian atrocities.
A Special Police Officer (SPO) turned militant has been arrested along with three other Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) associates from Hayatpora in Budgam District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in India on December 26, reports Daily Excelsior. A vehicle, which attempted to flee from the Police cordon was stopped tactfully and the vehicle occupants were overpowered by Security Forces (SFs) after they tried to resist. One of them was later identified as deserter SPO turned militant Altaf Hussain. The other three were identified as Shabir Ahmad Bhat, Jamsheed Magray and Zahid Dar, all residents of Pulwama. Arms and ammunition, along with other incriminating material was also recovered from their possession.
Security Forces (SFs) have detained three persons after six hand grenades were recovered during a search operation in Kanda Galuta village in Mendhar in Poonch District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in India on December 26, reports Daily Excelsior. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Poonch, Ramesh Angral, said, “Six grenades were recovered from a house during the searches which were kept there and were possibly to be used for a militant strike.”
A 75-MM mortar shell was recovered from a railway track near Kunjwani in Jammu District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in India on December 26, reports Daily Excelsior. An official of the Government Railway Police (GRP) said, the shell without having a fuse was found on the track by a patrolling party of Railway police at Kunjwani and was subsequently removed by the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS).
