On May 8, Assam Chief Minister (CM) Himanta Biswa Sarma, stated that the incident of United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) ‘executing’ its own cadres should serve as a lesson for youths who wish to join the banned outfit, reports Northeast Now. CM Sarma also reiterated his appeal to the United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) for peace talks, stating that such ‘tejor faku’ (bloodshed) will not lead to any development.
Meanwhile, Assam Director General of Police (DGP) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta has denied the Police department had no connection with the two boys executed on charges of being spies BY ULFA-I. DGP further stated that the killing of two Assamese youth was a shameful and cowardly act. Earlier, South Asia Terrorism Portal (SATP) reported that on May 7, ULFA-I claimed that it has sentenced two of its newly recruited cadres identified as Dhanjit Das and Sanjib Sarma to death for allegedly being ‘spies’ of the police.
