Chittagong University Cadres of Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS), the student wing of the Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), allegedly exploded eight crude bombs at two railway stations in Chittagong District on September 1, demanding reopening of two dormitories, which are reportedly dominated by the student body, reports The Daily Star. None was reported hurt in the blasts at Sholoshohor and Chowdhury Hat stations, but there was panic among commuters and a disruption in the movement of the shuttle trains.

Meanwhile, a Bogra District Court on September 1 sent Nandigram sub-District JeI Ameer (Chief) Nurul Islam Mondol (55), to jail, rejecting his bail prayer, reports The Daily Star. Police pressed charges against Nurul Islam and 267 other Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)-JeI activists on February 28, 2014 for vandalism, arson attacks and carrying out subversive activities in the sub-District on March 3, 2013. Islam appeared in the District and Sessions Judge's Court-2 on September 1 and prayed for bail. After hearing, Judge Muhamad Sabbir Foyez rejected the bail prayer and sent him to jail.

Meanwhile, a Dhaka Court on September 2 framed charges against three national standing committee members of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Moudud Ahmed, Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy and 38 other BNP and JeI activists for torching a vehicle and throwing crude bombs at Policemen during an anti-Government movement in 2013, reports The Daily Star. According to the charge sheet prepared by Police, Moudud, Abbas, Gayeshwar and the other accused assembled unlawfully in front of the BNP's Naya Paltan office in Dhaka city on March 6, 2013. They then vandalized a private car and set it ablaze.

Security Forces (SFs) on September 2 unearthed a large weapons cache at Sylhet District’s Satchharhi reserve forest from what was once perhaps the headquarters of the All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF), reports tripurainfo.com. The recovery area was barely 3 kilometers from the international border of Tripura (India). The recovered weapons include rocket launchers, four machineguns, a rifle, five machinegun barrels, 222 anti-tank weapons with 248 charges, 19 machinegun drum chains, 19 magazines, 12,987 bullets of various kinds and weapon lubricants.

Bangladesh has agreed to hand over United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) leader Anup Chetia to India, which will send back Nur Hossain, prime accused in a case of seven murders in Narayanganj District, reports The Hindu. Home Affairs Secretary Mozammel Haque Khan at a news conference after the 15th India-Bangladesh Home Secretary-level meeting, which concluded in Dhaka city on September 3 said “Now, India wants to get the ULFA leader back. In response, we told them that we have no objection.” After serving jail term, Chetia has sought political asylum, which was refused. Hossain fled to Kolkata after the brutal murders months ago. Under the Extradition Treaty, Bangladesh has placed requests for a number of Bangladeshi nationals imprisoned in India. India too has sent extradition requests to Bangladesh.

The Supreme Court (SC) on September 3 continued for the 13th day the hearing on the appeal filed by Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) Assistant Secretary General Muhammad Kamaruzzaman challenging the death penalty given to him for committing crimes against humanity during the Liberation War, reports The Daily Star. During the hearing, Kamaruzzaman's lawyer SM Shahjahan placed arguments before the Appellate Division of the SC to turn down the charge brought against him of leading a mass killing at Sohagpur in Sherpur District in 1971 war.

A Dhaka Court on September 4 indicted 13 leaders and cadres of Harkat-ul-Jihad-al Islami Bangladesh (HuJI-B) including its 'operations commander' Mufti Maulana Abdul Hannan in a case filed under the Explosives Act over a grenade attack on a rally of Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) on January 20, 2001 at Paltan Maidan in Dhaka city, reports The Independent. In the attack, four people were killed on the spot, while another died in hospital. Two cases were filed over the incident - one over the killings and another under the Explosives Act. Of the cases, a Dhaka Court on August 21 indicted 13 suspects in the one filed over murders.

Cadres of Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS), the student wing of the Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), exploded two crude bombs at Sholoshahar railway station and vandalized a Chittagong University (CU) teachers' bus at Ispahani intersection in Chittagong city of Chittagong District on September 4, reports The Daily Star. However, there is no report of injury. ICS has been observing an "indefinite strike" since August 31, demanding reopening of Shah Amanat and Suhrawardy halls of CU, which were temporarily shut after its gunfight with Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student wing of Awami League (AL) on August 24. The two halls housing over one thousand students were reportedly dominated by ICS.

Upon a contempt of court case submitted by the prosecution, the three-member tribunal passed the order as it found contemptuous its report published on its official website over its judgment on former Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) Ameer (Chief) Ghulam Azam, a War Crimes convict in Liberation War of 1971. Earlier, on July 15, 2013, the ICT-1 sentenced Ghulam Azam to 90 years’ imprisonment finding him guilty of all five charges of the 1971 crimes against humanity and genocide against him. After a month of pronouncement of the judgment, the HRW on August 16, 2013 released a report on its website headlined ‘Bangladesh: Azam conviction based on flawed proceedings’.

RAB told that the arrestee, Mohammad Sagir Hossain (45), is a charge sheeted accused in a case for blasting bombs near the then Zia International Airport terminal, now Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport of Dhaka city. The Supreme Court (SC) on September 17 commuted Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) Nayeb-e-Ameer (Deputy Chief) Delawar Hossain Sayedee’s death sentence handed down by International Crimes Tribunal-1 (ICT-1) on February 28, 2013 on charges of killing, abduction, torture, rape and forced religious conversion during the Liberation War in 1971, reports The Daily Star. A five-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice Muhamad Muzammel Hossain, delivered the verdict based on majority views. Of the judges, three gave Sayedee imprisonment until death, one acquitted him of all charges and the other upheld the capital punishment, according to reliable sources at the SC. The suspects are Mahidur Rahman (84) and Afsar Hossain alias Chutu (65). Police arrested Mahidur and Afsar in connection with the bomb blast at Shaheed Minar in the Shibganj sub-District headquarters on March 26 that killed Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) activist Asaduzzaman Sujon and injured three other people. Sujon was allegedly carrying crude bombs that exploded at the Shaheed Minar when people were placing wreaths at it. Police later filed the bomb blast and killing case accusing 151 persons.

Ahmed Miah, in his deposition told the tribunal that Pakistan Army in association with Jabbar carried out an attack at Phuljhuri village on May 17, 1971. Razakar forces at the directive of Jabbar converted 200 Hindus into Islam and arranged marriages of Hindu girls with Muslim boys. They also shot dead Sarda Paik of Phuljhuri on that day. Defense counsel Mizanul Islam crossed-examined the IO, Muhamad Nur Hossain, for the fourth consecutive day wrapping up the process. The three-member tribunal headed by Justice Obaidul Hassan fixed October 15 for recording depositions of the defense witnesses.
