Liankhan Khup Zou, surrendered before the Manipur Director-General of Police Yumnam Joykumar Singh and Assam Rifles Inspector-General (south), Major General C.A. Krishnan at a formal function on the outskirts of Imphal on June 1, reports Telegraph The cadres surrendered an AK-47 rifle, three pistols, a revolver, two radio sets, some explosives and ammunition at the auditorium of the Assam Rifles headquarters at Mantripukhri. With the surrender of these 13 cadres, the ZPA no longer exists, an Assam Rifles spokesperson said.

The United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF) accused the Kuki National Army (KNA) of indulging in threats and intimidations in the first phase of ADC election held on May 26, against the provisions of the Suspension of Operation ground rules. Consequently, people belonging to the Koms were denied their democratic rights to franchise in Sagang and Tuibuong areas in Churachandpur District and at Moreh area in Chandel District just to name a few, stated the UKLF. In the State Assembly Election held in February 2007, the KNA leaders were paid a huge amount of rupees for their active service on election duty though badly defeated and chased out from Saitu, Saikul and other constituencies, the UKLF said.

Manipur Government on June 4 rushed additional State Forces to Ukhrul and Senapati Districts to prevent any attempt by National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM) general secretary Thuingaleng Muivah to enter the State through the two Districts, reports Telegraph. The deployment came within hours of Muivah leaving Viswema in Kohima District for Pfutsero in Phek District in Nagaland. “Yes we have sent strong state forces, led by senior officers, to Ukhrul and Senapati to bar Muivah’s entry. We are on high alert and have taken maximum precautions. We will not allow him to enter Manipur,” Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh said. Imphal Free Press reports that doctors and staffs of the Regional Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) demonstrated inside the hospital campus on June 29, in protest against frequent harassment meted out to RIMS staffs and doctors by insurgent groups. Due to threats and mental harassment meted out by the Military Council faction of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), a doctor belonging to the Radiotherapy Department of the RIMS left the State in apprehension for 15 days. The absence of the doctor has adversely effected the treatment of more than 400 plus cancer patients, said Medical Superintendent of RIMS, Y. Mohen, adding that some extortionist in guise of insurgents are operating from the Jails and are using widows to extract ransom. One such widow was arrested by the Police nearby the residence of a RIMS doctor a few days back and in the aftermath of the incident, the group has been pressuring the doctor that it was due to doctor’s information that the cadre was arrested. The outfit has been pressuring the doctor that the arrested women should be released and all the necessary court proceedings must be borne by the doctor himself, Mohen disclosed.
