Director General of Police (DGP) C Balasubramaniam on January 2 said that National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) still have 16 or more hideouts in Bangladesh, reports The Telegraph. Most of these hideouts were concentrated at Chittagong Hill Track (CHT) in the neighbouring country, Balasubramaniam said. He said about four to six hideouts were adjacent to the Indo-Bangladesh border while others were far away from it.The DGP said, “The NLFT headed by Biswamohan Debbarma is still a powerful outfit running around 15/16 hideouts in Bangladesh. One camp is still maintained by the ATTF that too by two women.” Admitting that insurgents were using Tripura-Mizoram- Bangladesh tri-junction as corridor, he said security agencies including Assam Riffles have been trying hard to stop infiltration of militants from across the border. Asked about security arrangement along the border keeping in mind the recent unrest in Bangladesh, the DGP said the BSF and District Police authorities were asked to maintain strict vigil along the border so that militants could not enter into the Indian soil. He joined undivided NLFT in the year 1994 and was holding the rank of ‘Chief of the Army Staff’ of NLFT. He underwent several trainings in Pakistan. According to a Police Sources, Parshuram Tripura was the principal coordinator between the NLFT and several other NE insurgent groups for clandestine violent activities of NLFT militants in Tripura as well as for procurement, purchasing of fire arms illegally from across. He was one of the principal policy makers of the outfit. He carries a cash reward of INR 100,000 and a red corner notice was also issued against him by the Union Government. During the preliminary interrogation Pasaram Tripura disclosed that recently, an acrimonious atmosphere is brewing within NLFT-BM leadership on various issues like misappropriation of fund, religious faith and various other issues that resulted in frustration and compelled him to return to the main stream of life. The move comes days after three men, a Kolkata-based telecommunications professional and two Mizoram-based drivers were abducted near the Indo-Bangladesh border on November 23, 2013 by National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) militants aided by Bru militants. The abductors had demanded INR 50 million for their release and set a deadline of January 15, 2014 but the Mizoram Government ruled out paying any such ransom saying it will set precedence. The exodus took place from at least three villages including Damdiai, Tumpanglui and New Eden in the past few days as Bru families fear a repeat of the 1997-Bru-Mizo ethnic violence. Read less...

Officials of both the states would persuade the refugees to return to their villages in Mamit district."Goel said that he has already talked to his Mamit district counterpart and requested him to take appropriate steps to take back the tribals to their villages -- Damdiai, Tumpanglui and New Eden.
