Following the attack, the District administration decided to clamp curfew in the area. The YCL attacked the Nepali Congress, Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML), Janamorcha Nepal, and Rastriya Prajatantra Party activists taking part in a meeting organised to protest against the Maoist lawmakers' indifference towards coordination in the public opinion collection drive for the constitution-to-be drafted.

Kantipuronline reports that one security personnel was hacked to death and another was seriously injured by irate Tharu demonstrators in Sauraha region in Chitwan District on March 6 after two Tharu agitators died in police firing a day earlier. The Tharus are demanding revocation of the ordinance that recognises Tharu communities as the Madhesis. Nepal News adds that later Chitwan District Administration lifted the curfew imposed for an indefinite period in Ratnagar and Bhandara municipality area from 12 midnight, after the cadres of Tharu community agreed to demonstrate peacefully.

Statesman quoting intelligence sources reports that militants of different outfits operating from the Indian soil, who are holed up in Bangladesh, are reportedly shifting base towards Nepal and Bhutan. The report adds that such movement could take place through North Bengal, increasing security threats in the region prior to the Parliament elections. Outfits like the Kamtapur Liberation Organisation (KLO) and the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) have been trying to build organisational bases in Cooch Behar District and the adjoining areas. The recent arrest of a suspected Maoist revealed their presence in these parts.

Kantipuronline reports that despite the People's Liberation Army’s (PLA) decision for deferral of its fresh recruitment campaign, the 7th division at Taalbandh in the Kailali District announced to carry out fresh recruitment on March 11. Earlier, issuing a statement on March 9, the PLA Chief Nanda Kishore Pun had said the PLA headquarters postponed the recruitment drive from March 10 respecting the Supreme Court's stay order and Army Integration Special Committee (AISC)'s directives to stop fresh intake in the PLA.

Talks between the Government and the agitating Tharu community on March 11 ended inconclusively after the Government did not agree to the latter’s demand to assure them a constitutional guarantee of proportional reservation in all public services for ethnic groups on the basis of population. The Government agreed to eight out of nine demands put forward by the Tharus including making amendments in the interim constitution and a controversial ordinance as demanded by the indigenous Tharus. The word ‘Madhes’ included in the statutes will be changed to either ‘Terai’ or ‘Terai-Madhes’. Another round of talks is expected to take place on March 12 (today). The Tharu community has not withdrawn its strike even as the talks are ongoing.

The CPN-UML accused Young Communist League (YCL) of being involved in the killing.
