UCPN-M vice chairman Baburam Bhattarai on October 3 renewed his call to Nepali Congress (NC) leader Ram Chandra Poudel to withdraw his candidacy to the post of Prime Minister (PM). He said Poudel must quit the "meaningless" PM race or the nation will face "a severe constitution crisis" from which there will be no escape. He also said that the reactionary forces were working together to enforce military rule in the name of Presidential rule in the country, adds Himalayan Times. He again said that the President would not resort to such act that would tarnish his image, no matter how much the reactionaries strive for it.

Issuing a press release, Maoist spokesperson Dina Nath Sharma said that its party cadre Rajan Dahal was arrested on fake charges "in a manner reminiscent of the Panchayati days". Poudel secured 109 votes in his favour and one vote against him. 46 lawmakers opted for 'no vote' section in the ballot paper. Altogether 156 lawmakers participated in the voting process. Police on October 31 arrested three persons, including a United Nations’ Mission in Nepal (UNMIN)-verified Unified Communist party of Nepal-Maoist (UCPN-M) cadre, for their alleged involvement in blasts in front of the Constituent Assembly (CA) building on May 22, 2010 and July 6, 2010 and extorting Dhading-based teachers and businessmen, reports Himalayan Times. A special taskforce of Metropolitan Police Crime Division (MPCD) arrested them in Dhading District. The arrestees were identified as Sher Bahadur Chaudhary (23) from Rampur-3, Dang District, and Rajendra Bisunkhe (22) and Kishor Bisunkhe (23) from Jeevanpur- 4, Dhading District.
