Five Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) employees, including a sub-divisional officer (SDO), and three community Police personnel were found dead in fields near Sheikh Muhammadi area in Badhaber, a suburb of Peshawar, the provincial capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, after a militant attack on a grid station on April 2, reports Dawn. During the attack, the militants fired seven rockets at a 500 kilowatt grid station in Sheikh Muhammadi, causing it to catch fire. The grid station was completely destroyed in the incident. Station House Officer of Badhaber Police Station, Granullah, said that six vehicles of WAPDA, control room and official records were also damaged in the attack. An official of the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS), Abdul Haq, said 14 bombs of five kilograms each had been planted to blow up the offices and the grid station. “Thirteen bombs exploded while one was defused by the bomb disposal unit,” he said.

Voters will use the polling stations in the May 11 General Election. The provincial Police classified KP's polling stations as more sensitive, sensitive and normal. Peshawar had 625 more sensitive polling stations, more than any other location did. The Police declared 3,744 KP polling stations "normal." They recommended deploying two policemen at every normal polling station and six Policemen at every sensitive or more sensitive location. They also suggested deploying units of the provincial Rapid Response Force near polling stations.

According to PESCO spokesman, the kidnapped employees, Engineer Shoaib Rabbani, Engineer Faheem, Hafiz Bari and Zeeshan reached their homes safely. A powerful blast has been reported outside the residence of former senator Nasir Khan Afridi in Hayatabad Phase-II area of Peshawar, the provincial capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on April 8, reports Daily Times. But no loss of life was reported. Police and bomb disposal squad personnel said 500 grams of explosives were used in the blast which surprised Senator Nasir Khan. “I have not received any threat,” he told newsmen as the forensic team was gathering pieces of evidence to advance its investigation. “I don’t know what could be reasons behind the explosion.” No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. However, suspicion grew against militants in neighbouring Khyber Agency (FATA). Nasir Khan hails from Bara town of Khyber Agency and his brother Momin Khan could not get his nomination papers cleared by the returning officer for NA-46 (Bara). Senior police officers confirmed that the blast was carried out by a suicide bomber whose target was Ghulam Ahmad Bilour. “It was a suicide attack and five to six kilogrammes of explosives were used in it,” Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU), Shafqat Malik said. The security agencies freed 13 more missing persons picked up on suspicion of having links with the militant outfits, while body of one missing person was found in Mardan District, the Peshawar High Court was told, reports The News. A two-member bench comprising PHC Chief Justice Dost Muhammad Khan and Justice Rohul Amin disposed of cases of 13 missing persons after their lawyers and family members informed the court that the detainees have been freed by the security agencies and they have returned home safely. The freed missing persons included Asim Khan, Muhammad Arif and his six companions, Sajad Ali, Fida Hussain, Irfan, Manzoor and Shahid. Deputy Attorney General (DAG) Muzzamil Khan, representing the Ministries of Defence and Interior, informed the bench that 14 missing persons have been shifted to various internment centres and their cases are running in the court. The bench took 355 missing persons cases for hearing, out of which 10 were freed, 14 were shifted to the internment centres and one missing person’s body was found in Mardan.

A suicide bomber rammed his explosive-laden motorbike into a Police van, moments after Commissioner Peshawar Sahibzada Mohammad Anis had passed through the area. “Around five kilograms of explosives were planted on the back seat of the motorbike. Ball-bearings were also embedded in the explosive layers to cause more casualties and damage,” Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of the Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) Shafqat Malik said. Those killed in the blast included the Afghan consulate’s Business Attache, Qazi Hilal, and an official of its refugee section, Mohammad Idrees. Qazi Hilal was son of the former deputy leader of Hezb-i-Islami and Afghanistan’s Former Minister for Justice and Communications, Qazi Amin Waqad.
