The security force (SF) personnel arrested two suspected United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) linkmen, Samsul Alom Mandal and Hazarat Ali, from Tamarhat area in the Kokrajhar district on July 18-night, according to Assam Tribune. Following the confession of the arrested linkmen, the SF personnel recovered fake currency making equipment, fake currency worth Rupees 10,000, cash amount of Rupees 40,000, one grenade, one SLR, one pistol and a huge amount of live ammunitions from the residence of a person, Lambu Mardi, at Dingdinga village. Reports added that Shimultapu Police had earlier recovered fake currencies worth several thousand Rupees in the denomination of Rupees 1000 and 500 in separate incidents.

Sentinel has reported that the Union Government have asked the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) to establish direct contact with the government without which, it said, there would be no scope for the proposed peace process to move forward. “The ULFA must communicate their demands, including release of jailed leaders, in black and white directly to the Centre for the peace process to proceed further,” the Union Home Secretary V.K. Duggal is learnt to have told interlocutor Mamoni Raisom Goswami on July 19. Speaking to Sentinel over phone from New Delhi, Goswami said that the Union Home Secretary had informed her on July 19 that ULFA must make direct contact with the government and place their demands instead of communicating through intermediaries.
