In another incident, police and Naxalites of the PWG exchanged fire at Dodirayalu in the Shankarajkondapur forest area, Medak district, on October 1. However, no casualty was reported. According to official sources, the encounter took place when a police party, combing the forest area, spotted a dalam (squad) of about 16 Naxalites camping in the area. On seeing the police, the Naxalites opened fire and police retaliated in self-defence. The Naxalites retreated after some time.

Left-wing extremists—Naxalites—of the People’s War Group (PWG) blew up a Mandal Revenue Office (MRO) building at Addavedu village, Prakasham district, on October 3. Official sources said a group of Naxalites of the Nallamalla dalam (squad) went to the MRO office and blew it up using explosives. Police also reportedly recovered a letter by the Naxals stating that the MRO office was being blown-up to protest the recent arrest of their ‘comrades’ and police 'failure' to produce them in court, they added.

According to media reports, left-wing extremists—Naxalites—of the People’s War Group (PWG) has issued a notice asking Panchayat and Zila Parishad (local bodies) members in Malkangiri district to resign within 15 days or face the consequences. The PWG has reportedly accused them of corruption and betraying the popular mandate. Reports said the threat is being taken seriously as the PWG has a fearsome record of dealing violently with public officials and political activists. Recently, an influential contractor with pronounced BJP leanings, was beaten to death by the PWG Naxalites in Malkangiri.

The Kolkata High Court on October 8 granted bail to Kaushik Ganguly, a lecturer at the Rajabazaar Science College in Kolkata, accused of links with left-wing extremist—Naxalite—group the People's War Group (PWG). Ganguly was granted bail by a division bench in connection with three criminal cases registered against him in the West Midnapore district of West Bengal. The three cases registered against Ganguly included waging war against the country (Section 121 of IPC) and murder (Section 302 of IPC). He was arrested from Midnapore on July 5, 2002.

Suspected left-wing extremists—Naxalites—of the People’s War Group (PWG) looted approximately nine tonnes of explosives being carried by a truck from Uttar Pradesh's Lalitpur to a copper project situated at Malajkhand, near Laungur Udghati, Balaghat district. Police sources said Naxalites attacked the vehicle on October 6 and rendered the driver and his assistant as hostages. Over the next two days, the Naxalites took away 300 boxes of explosives. The truck driver and assistant were finally released on October 10 after being handed a note issued in the name of one Mahesh who is reportedly 'secretary' of the Balaghat division committee of the PWG. The note reportedly said the explosives would be used to "crush the touts of the pluralistic establishment and bureaucrats". The police have launched a combing operation to track down the Naxalites.

Additional Director General of Police, Rajiv Mathur while talking to a news agency said, "Naxalites belonging to the outlawed People War Group (PWG) triggered a landmine near Bhopalpatna about 500 km from the state capital at about 6.30 PM today when police personnel were returning to their base in the Border Road Organisation vehicle".

A group of five armed cadres, including a woman, of the PWG barged into the Pentlavalli village branch of Andhra Bank, in Kollapur mandal (administrative unit) and decamped with Rs. 13.52 lakhs in cash. The Naxalites beta him up the bank manager who had resisted the robbery attempt and grabbed the cash from him, reportedly at gun point. There were some 30 customers and five other employees at the bank at the time of the incident.
