Two children, brother and sister, were killed when they picked up an explosive device and then threw it or fiddled with it at village Bruen in Dera Mangota area of Rajouri District on January 30, reports Daily Excelsior. The victims were identified as nine years old Shazeena Kousar and six years old Khursheed Mehmood. Sources said, "The blast might have been caused either by an IED [improvised explosive device] or a grenade, planted by the militants to target Security Forces (SF), who had a picket nearby.''

The mishap took place at around 5.30 pm when an Army patrol was moving along the LoC near Chapri and Gian Posts. In the aftermath of March 13 fidayeen (suicide) attack at the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp in Bemina area of the Srinagar city (Srinagar District), one person was killed in alleged firing by CRPF troopers, reports Kashmir Times. The incident happened when some Security Forces (SF) personnel were rushed to Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) for donating blood to the victims of the fidayeen attack. SF personnel came under attack while returning as locals pelted stones upon their vehicle. To disperse the violent crowd, CRPF troopers allegedly opened fire in which two persons were injured. Later, one of them, Altaf Ahmad Wani, reportedly succumbed to injuries at SKIMS. Daily Excelsior reports that a total of 10 persons, including six CRPF personnel and four civilians, were in the suicide attack. As reported earlier, five CRPF troopers were killed, and seven persons including, five CRPF troopers, were injured in the attack.

Terrorists in the morning of March 13 (today) stormed a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp in Bemina area of the Srinagar city (Srinagar District), killing five troopers and injuring seven others, reports The Times of India. The two terrorists, who carried out the attack, were also killed. "Five jawans have been martyred and seven have been injured," an unnamed senior Police officer told reporters at the spot. He said it was not clear whether there were two or three terrorists who hurled grenades and opened indiscriminate firing at the CRPF camp. "Two fidayeen (suicide militants) were neutralised and searches are going on," the officer said. He said the group affiliation and identity of the terrorists killed in the incident was a matter of investigation. Two civilians were also injured during the attack, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said while confirming the attack. No militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.

At least two militants suspected to be shot dead by the Security Forces (SF) in an operation at Gatyali Behak locality in Rajwar forest area of Handwara (Kupwara District) on May 2, reports Daily Excelsior. Sources said, “SF fired grenades inside the hideout to eliminate the militants but it was not clear whether the militants are dead or alive. After the grenades were fired there was no response from them to the security SF and it is believed they are dead.” The dead militants are believed to be of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) whose task was to receive the infiltrated militants as the snow has started melting in the sector and militants are ready on launching pads for infiltration.

A teen-aged boy was killed while his sister had a narrow escape when a grenade exploded accidentally at village Kither in Bunjwah area of Kishtwar District in the afternoon of May 18, reports Daily Excelsior. Reports said Mohammad Yusuf, 15, who had gone for grazing cattle along with his sister fiddled with a grenade lying in the fields, leading to a powerful explosion. Yusuf was killed on spot. A suspected militant was killed on July 1, when the explosives he was carrying exploded during an encounter with Security Forces (SFs) at Sawjian forward area in Poonch District along the Line of Control (LoC) while three other militants reportedly managed to intrude successfully, Kashmir Times reported. Troops observed suspicious movement of four suspected militants in the vicinity of a forward post. Troops challenged the intruders and during the en-suing firing one militant was killed. The militant was carrying some explosives, which detonated as a result of firing by the troops. Intelligence sources claimed that the remaining three intruders managed to enter the Indian Territory and search operation has been launched to flush them out.

An army porter, identified as Javed Iqbal, was killed and three others were injured in the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast in Kanga Gali area near the Line of Control (LoC) in Sawjian sector of Poonch District, on July 8, reports Daily Excelsior. Official sources told that three IEDs or landmines were detonated by the militants along the LoC in Sabjian sub sector of Poonch at 7.45 am, 7.55 am and 12.40 pm either using remote control devices, time devices or trip wire technology. While first and third blasts failed to cause any casualties or damage, it was the second blast at 7.55 am in which one porter, engaged by the Army for carrying their goods from one post to another, was killed while three others were injured. Troops have already been maintaining a very high alert on the LoC in Rajouri and Poonch Districts with repeated bids of infiltration by the militants from Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) and attempts by the militants to plant IEDs and landmines on the LoC to target Army soldiers.

A Police spokesman said that a hand grenade was hurled at a Police vehicle, by militants, which was passing through Batamaloo area at about 12.30pm. Kasana was booked under Section 7/25 of the Arms Act and was slapped with the Public Safety Act (PSA). Recently his PSA was quashed by court and he was rearrested and being shifted to Baramulla District Jail for detention. Sources said that Kasana, infiltrated into Kashmir valley from Pakistan in 2012 along with a Pashtun group of militants. He was arrested by Police and detained under PSA. The group headed by Asadullah, a top ‘commander’ of HM is operating in Kangan area of Ganderbal District since it infiltrated into Kashmir.

Greater Kashmir reports that three to four militants in combat uniform arrived at Hiranagar Police Station Kathua District in an auto rickshaw and trooped into the premises without facing resistance. They fired indiscriminately and lobbed hand grenades. Four policemen died in the attack. Sources said the militants also gunned down the cleaner of a truck and hijacked the vehicle along with its driver and drove away towards the highway. One more civilian reportedly died in exchange of gunfire. Even as the Police alerted all Police, paramilitary and Army units, the militants stormed a formation of 16 Cavalry on the highway at Samba (Samba District). As a gun battle was on between the militants and the Army, sources said that six Army personnel died in the beginning of the second suicide offensive. NDTV adds that second in command of the 16 Cavalry, a lieutenant colonel, was among the Army personnel killed. Two militants were also killed in the counter offensive. Both Hiranagar and Samba towns are situated just five to 10 kilometers from the International Border between India and Pakistan.
