The grenade exploded inside the debris of the house where a shootout took place between militants and Security Forces in night of February 25. Superintendent of Police, Shopian, Altaf Khan said, “After the encounter ended, we had asked the villagers not to go to the encounter site till our bomb disposal squad searches and clears the spot of any unexploded weapon. But some people had gone to the spot this morning and fiddled with the grenade,” Khan said. As reported earlier, two militants of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM) were killed and four Army personnel, including a Major, were injured the encounter.

Pakistani Rangers on July 15 resorted to heavy firing and shelling on the International Border (IB) in Kanachak and Pargwal areas of Akhnoor sector in Jammu District targeting five Border out Posts (BOPs) of Border Security Force (BSF) and six forward villages, killing a woman and injuring five others including two BSF jawans and three civilians, reports Daily Excelsior. Poli Devi (42) was killed on spot after being hit by splinters of mortar shells. A mortar shell exploded in the field at village Bhareth, where she was working killing her instantly while Ramesh Lal (24), Usha Devi (38) and Surinder Kumar (22), all residents of Bhalwal Bhareth were the civilians, who were injured in shelling. Two injured BSF jawans have been identified as Anjani Kumar and YP Tiwari.

One civilian was injured when militants on July 24 carried out a series of attacks in Srinagar city against telecoms by hurling grenades at their showrooms and attempting to blow up cell phone towers, reports Daily Excelsior. The first attack took place at Karan Nagar when two militants barged inside the showroom of Aircel and directed the employees and customers to move out. One of them carrying a pistol lobbed a grenade inside the showroom which exploded damaging the showroom. The militants fled from the scene and stopped at another showroom of Vodafone, hardly 300 metres away from the first showroom. They barged into the showroom and threatened the employees for not following the Lashkar-e-Islam (LeI) directive on shutdown of cellular operations. They asked the employees and customers to move out and later hurled a grenade inside, damaging the showroom. Hours after showroom attacks, militants threw a grenade towards a Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) cell phone tower at Shaheed Gunj locality, in which one painter identified as Mohammad Faiq was injured. In the fourth attack, militants targeted an Airtel tower at Wazir Bagh area of the city by lobbing a grenade. It exploded near the bunker and 13 CRPF personnel who were around it were injured. The area was immediately cordoned off and searches were conducted but militants had fled from the area under the cover of darkness. In the meanwhile, militant outfit Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen (TuM) claimed responsibility for the attack. A local news agency statement said that TuM militants carried out the attack.
