We did not send them to ask for arms. Wherever they go they talk about the need for a solution through peaceful means. This is what our representatives did in London and in China,” said Muivah.

According to Press Trust of India, the Union Government has decided to provide maximum security cover for the kin of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, his predecessor Atal Behari Vajpayee and Congress Party chief Sonia Gandhi, in view of the abduction threat from the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) group. A decision to this effect was reportedly taken at a meeting chaired by Home Minister Shivraj Patil in the middle of October 2006 and was implemented recently after carrying out a review of security for the kin of the VVIPs. Among others, grandchildren of Dr. Singh, Sonia Gandhi and Vajpayee would be provided with "Z" category security. Security agencies in Jammu and Kashmir had reportedly intercepted a wireless message of the JeM, which suggested that militants were planning to kidnap kin of these VVIPs to secure the release of some militants in various jails of India.

The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is believed to have alerted Indian security agencies on November 12 about possible attacks on airports and vital installations across the country by al Qaeda terrorists, reports The Hindu. An anonymous letter was sent to the Tiruchi (in Tamil Nadu) Airport Director, warned that "Al-Qaeda terrorists have infiltrated Chennai airport and are going to blow it up using sophisticated explosive devices. Suicide-bombers have penetrated Chennai airport and placed powerful bombs there." Written in Tamil, the letter warned of possible attacks on other airports such as Coimbatore and Madurai (Tamil Nadu), besides Kochi, Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram airports in Kerala. The FBI has reportedly asked Indian authorities for a thorough profiling of passengers bound for the United States besides providing extra Apron security (when aircraft is on the tarmac) to the plane. The Civil Aviation Ministry held meetings with top officials of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, the Home Ministry and the Central Industrial Security Force and security has been stepped up in all airports across the country, especially in the southern states.
