The outfit also asked the contractors, traders, and the construction agencies, now engaged in conversion of the Silchar-Lumding metre gauge rail track into broad gauge, to pay ransom, reports Telegraph. According to intelligence agencies, 50 NSCN-IM cadres led by Simlaisang, a self-styled ‘major’ of the outfit’s armed wing, are operating in the district. While a self-styled ‘captain’ John Tangkhul is the "area commander" in Haflong town, ‘sergeant’ Angu Lotha is the ‘chief’ of the outfits’s Mahur unit. The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) on April 23 denied that they posed a threat to the lives of prominent Tamil Nadu politicians, according to the Hindustan Times. In a statement issued following reports that there had been such threats, the LTTE's military spokesman, Rasaiah Ilanthirayan alias Marshall, said that the LTTE "maintain the firm policy of keeping away from the local politics of Tamil Nadu, India or any other state in the world". He alleged that the reports of threats were inspired by the dishonest and oppressive Sri Lankan Government to stem the growing sympathy in Tamil Nadu for the suffering Eelam (Sri Lankan) Tamils. We strongly condemn this immoral act."

The Communist Party of Maoist (CPI-Maoist) have reportedly threatened to 'teach a lesson' to the former chief ministers of Jharkhand, Arjun Munda and Babulal Marandi, and the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) party chief, Shibu Soren, for suppressing their 'revolutionary movement'. Jharkhand Police said the audiocassette - issued by the Bengal, Orissa and Jharkhand Regional Committee of the CPI-Maoist - was seized along with pamphlets and other material during a raid in Jamshedpur on May 9. "This is the first time Maoists have issued a threat to politicians through an audiocassette," an unnamed police official told IANS on May 11. Voiced by Sukhdeo, the committee's secretary, the tape allegedly says: "A conspiracy is hatched to suppress the CPI-Maoist revolutionary movement by the leaders. These leaders will be taught lesson like Sunil Mahto." Sunil Kumar Mahto, a JMM parliamentarian from Jamshedpur, was killed by the Maoists on March 4, 2007.
