Three suspected militants were killed while five others arrested by the Security Forces (SFs) during a search operation in Zaidi area of Khuzdar District in Balochistan on January 15, reports The News. Deputy Commissioner Syed Abdul Waheed Shah said that the security forces and Levies force had been conducting a joint search operation in Zaidi area when armed men opened fire on them. The SFs returned the fire, killing three suspects. They also arrested five suspects. Two security men also sustained injuries. One abducted person and heavy weapons including ammunitions were also recovered from the possession of the suspects.

At least 24 Shia pilgrims returning from Iran were killed and 40 others were injured in a bomb attack targeting their bus in the Khusak area of Kanak in Mastung District on January 21, reported Daily Times. Local Government official Shafqat Shahwani said that 51 passengers had been on board at the time of the blast and that nine passengers were still unaccounted for. Provincial Home Secretary Asad Gilani said that two buses with 103 pilgrims had been travelling together with security vehicles provided by the Government and that the bomb struck one of the buses. Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) claimed the responsibility for the attack.

Digging is under way to locate more bodies, according to Deputy Commissioner Abdul Waheed Shah. He said that the bodies were dumped in different areas. The identity of the victims could not be determined yet. Only the bones of the bodies were recovered. The government planned to conduct DNA tests on them. After the recovery of the bodies, there is a great concern among relatives of the missing persons.

Unidentified armed militants attacked the house of a pro-government tribal elder, Gazeen Khan Bugti, killing him and eight members of his family, including three women and three children, in Dera Bugti District on February 9, reports Dawn. An unnamed Police officer said that armed militants attacked the convoy of Frontier Corps (FC) in Chah-e-Sar area of Turbat. He said the FC personnel quickly retaliated and five militants were killed on the spot. The officer stated that the FC recovered weapons from the possession of militants. He said that there were no reports of fatalities on the part of the FC.

He further added that 10 security personnel also sustained injuries during the operation and the "Forces also destroyed six vehicles of miscreants". "There is an intense firing between forces and miscreants", Wasey added. Security Forces also claimed to have recovered rocket launchers, hand grenades, hand-held bombs and other arms and ammunition from the possessions of militants. Earlier it was reported that six militants were killed. The SFs also detained five suspects in a search operation conducted in connection with the attack targeting the Samungli airbase. Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Ghalib Mehsud faction claimed responsibility for the attack on the Airbases in Quetta. Ghalib Mehsud is the leader of Fidayeen-e-Islam which is the suicide wing of TTP. Commander Southern Command, Lieutenant General Nasir Khan Janjua said, "They all seemed to be foreign nationals." At least five people, including a Hindu vendor and a teenage boy, were killed while two others were critically wounded when unknown armed assailants opened fire at multiple shops on Usman Road in Balochi Street of Quetta on November 12, reports The Express Tribune. According to an official of Gawalmandi Police Station, masked militants on motorbikes opened fire at a barber shop, a tailor shop, and a Hindu vendor in downtown Quetta. The victims were identified as Sunil Jani (the Hindu vendor), Khalid Bila, Irfan, Shakir (14) and Naveed Qureshi. No outfit claimed responsibility for the attack. “The attackers barged into the shops and opened fire from very close range,” said Ghulam Yassen, a barber who sustained leg injuries. “They went to other shops and opened fire.” Police said the investigation has begun and it could be a case targeting settlers of ethnicities other than Baloch in the Province. Excluding a Hindu vendor, all victims are said to be settlers—those who’ve settled in Quetta from other Provinces.

Unidentified militants shot dead four polio workers, including three female health workers, and injured three others on the Eastern Bypass in the outskirts of Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan, on November 26, reports The News. Police officials said that the members of the polio team were travelling in a pick-up towards the Basic Health Unit (BHU), Mengalabad, on the Eastern Bypass when unidentified militants intercepted their vehicle and opened indiscriminate firing on the health workers. Reports suggested that the assailants chased the polio team vehicle on a motorcycle and when it reached the Link Road, they intercepted it. The deceased were identified as Hameeda Malik, Imam Bibi, Hameeda Bibi and Ijaz. The assailants managed to flee. The injured were identified as Fareeda, Sumera and Salma Bibi.

Three bodies found in Kalzai area of the District were of Afghan nationals and two bodies found in Khanozai area were of Baloch identity. “…I have recovered at least 12 such bodies during the past one and half year, in the same Khanozai area, while several from other areas of Pishin,” Abdul Salam Achakzai, Assistant Commissioner Karizat said, adding, “Balochistan does not have a forensic lab to investigate DNA samples. Hence, DNA samples would be sent to Lahore.”

Meanwhile, four Pakistani transporters were injured when the Iranian border guards retaliated and fired 42 mortar shells into Zamuran town of Turbat District on December 29, reported The Express Tribune.
