On January 8, three people were killed and three others were injured when unidentified assailants opened fire at their convoy at the Loni Road area in Sibi city of Sibi District, reports The Nation. The convoy also included Nawabzada Baru Khan Barozai, brother of Nawab Ghous Bakhsh Barozai, the ex-interim Chief Minister of Balochistan who sustained injuries. Two soldiers who lost their lives in the attack were identified as Sepoy Naseeb Ullah and Sepoy Insha Allah.

Six terrorists of Islamic State (IS) including Asghar Samalani were killed during exchange of fire at Eastern Bypass area of Quetta of Balochistan, reports Ary News on January 9. The terrorists initially lobbed grenades and fired at Security Forces (SF) when asked to surrender. In retaliation, six terrorists were killed. Improvised explosive device, three submachine guns with 200 rounds, two 9mm pistols with 47 rounds, a hand grenade and two motorcycles were recovered from the terrorist hideout.

10 Army soldiers were killed after terrorists attacked a security forces’ check post in Kech District of Balochistan Province in the intervening night of January 25-26, reports Daily Times. A statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said “During intense exchange of fire, one terrorist was killed and several injured. While repulsing terrorists’ fire raid, 10 soldiers embraced martyrdom.” It added that three terrorists had been apprehended in the follow-up clearance operation, which it said was still in progress to hunt down the perpetrators of the incident.

According to officials at the Levies Control Room, the victims were passing by when their vehicle drove over a landmine. Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) leader SarfrazBugti claimed that Baloch Republican Army terrorists were behind the attack. Three Army personnel were killed and several others injured when Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) targeted a military convoy with an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Absar Kaor area of Turbat town in Kech District of Balochistan on February 1, reports Radio Zrumbesh. BLA spokesman Jeehand Baloch said in his statement that BLA’s Special Tactical Operations Squad (STOS) targeted an army vehicle in the convoy, which resulted in killing three Army personnel and wounding several others. He said that after the attack, the enemy as usual, tried to hide its casualties and financial losses from the media by sealing off the place to keep the morale of its defeated Army high.

Four Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) cadres were killed during an exchange of fire when they tried to enter a Frontier Corps (FC) camp in Nushki District of Balochistan on February 2, reports Dawn. In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that the terrorists attempt to enter the camp was "promptly responded". One officer was injured during the shootout and that "intermittent firing" was continuing. The BLA claimed responsibility for the attacks in a statement. However, Radio Zrumbesh quoting BLA spokesman Jeehand Baloch reported that 45 SF personnel were killed in the attack when ‘martyred’ Fidayeen rammed his explosive-laden vehicle into the main gate of the FC headquarters, clearing the way for other Fidayeen to enter.

"The terrorists' hideout was surrounded on a major intelligence tip-off," the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement. "Security forces encircled the well dug out [hideout] and [engaged] in an intense exchange of fire" with the terrorists hiding there, it said, adding that three terrorists were killed in the incident. The statement said the killed terrorists were identified as militant commanders Summair alias Bahar, Altaf alias Lalik and Phailan Baloch, who was involved in terrorism activities against SFs in Hoshab, Panjgur and other areas.

Three soldiers were killed and five others were injured when a convoy of Security Forces (SFs) was attacked by Baloch Raj Aajoi Sangar (BRAS) militants in the Badok area along the Makran Coastal Highway in Gwadar District of Balochistan on February 20, reports The Balochistan Post. The SFs summoned aerial help but the attackers had managed to escape by then. BRAS claimed responsibility for the attack. In a media statement, Baloch Khan, the BRAS spokesperson said that the Pakistani forces had sustained casualties and material damage. Baloch Khan said after being “utterly vanquished” in “successful guerrilla operations” both in cities and in the mountains, the Pakistani forces are now targeting innocent Baloch civilians. The security forces are forcibly disappearing Baloch civilians, especially the Baloch students, and forcing them into prison, he added.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement that a group of cadres had abducted Lieutenant Colonel Laiq Baig Mirza and his cousin Umer Javed as they were returning after a paying a visit to the Quaid-e-Azam Residency. "After receiving the information, Army Quick Reaction Forces were immediately dispatched to chase fleeing terrorists who were traced moving to their hideouts in general area Mangi Dam," ISPR said. A search operation was launched by Security Forces using Special Service Group (SSG) troops and helicopters to locate the abductees and the terrorists. "Resultantly, on the night between July 13 and July 14, a group of six to eight terrorists was spotted moving in a nullah in nearby mountains by one of the teams of security forces. On sensing their possible encirclement, terrorists shot Lt. Col. Mirza and attempted to flee," the statement added. An exchange of fire ensued, resulting the killing of five terrorists. The SFs also recovered a cache of improvised explosive devices and ammunition. However, in the process, remaining terrorists along with other abductee Umer managed to flee from the scene, according to the statement. Earlier, BLA ‘spokesperson’ Jeehand Baloch claimed the custody of Lieutenant Colonel Laiq Baig Mirza, reports Radio Zrumbesh. He was arrested in an intelligence-based operation by BLA’s special force, Special Tactical Operations Squad (STOS). Lieutenant Colonel Laiq Baig Mirza was a primary target and he was being tracked for days by BLA’s intelligence units. On 12 July his movements were followed throughout the day and he was finally arrested in an area where risk to members of public was at minimum. Colonel Laeeq was travelling with his family on the day; however, the family members were treated with utmost respect and they were not harmed in any way as they were not involved in any crimes. Colonel Laeeq of 96 L/C belonged to 12th Azad Kashmir Regiment of Army. He previously held commanding positions in Pakistan Rangers. Currently he was a commanding officer of Pakistan’s Military Intelligence (MI). He was working in DHA Quetta as a cover for his secretive role. Colonel Laeeq was arrested for being an officer of occupying forces, and his direct involvement in Baloch genocide and grave human rights violations, including enforced disappearances of women and children, and other crimes. He was given full opportunity to prove his innocence in a Baloch national court. During the proceedings he confessed to all his crimes and was awarded death sentence, said Jeehand Baloch. BLA has compiled a list of military officers that are directly involved in Baloch genocide. Strict action will be taken against all such officers and they will be brought to justice, adds Jeehand Baloch.

Four terrorists and two Army soldiers were killed during an exchange of fire when terrorists opened fire on Security Forces (SFs) in Shahrigh area of Sibi District in Balochistan on October 31, reports Dawn. According to a press release issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), an intelligence-based operation (IBO) was underway in Kaman Pass since October 30 to clear a terrorist hideout. "Security forces were heli-dropped near the suspected location of terrorists to cut the escape routes and clear the hideout. However, during the establishment of blocking positions, terrorists opened fire on the security forces" in which Sepoy Shafi Ullah and Sepoy Muhammad Qaiser were killed. Four terrorists were killed in the ensuing exchange of fire. A cache of arms and ammunition, including improvised explosive devices, was recovered.

BLA ‘spokesman’ Azad Baloch claim the responsibility for the attack. Sheikh Salim Tagapi is the main leader of the ‘death squad’ in Haji Ibrahim Chingizi town. Three other ‘death squad’ members were identified as Abdul Raziq, Saif Islam and Sanaullah, while one member of ‘death squad’ named Dilshad was seriously injured. During the attack, the remaining members of the ‘death squad’ fled the hideout place. Azad Baloch said Sheikh Salim Tagapi was working as the right-hand man of the Shafiq Mengal for more than a decade. At the behest of the Army in several areas of Balochistan including Quetta, Kharan, and Khuzdar, he used to work as a commander in several genocidal activities including the forced disappearance of Baloch youth, target killing, inhumane torture during imprisonment, in addition to theft, robbery, kidnapping for ransom and some anti-social activities. For the past few years, he was in Shafiq Mengal's camp based in Tutak and Wadh area of Khuzdar and was heading several death squad networks.

Security Forces (SFs) killed 10 terrorists during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Hoshab area of Kech District in Balochistan on November 29, reports Dawn. According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the IBO was conducted to clear a hideout of terrorists linked to firing incidents targeting security forces and civilians, along with planting improvised explosive devices on the Gwadar-Hoshab (M-8) road. “As security forces were in the process of establishing blocking positions after identification of 12-14 terrorists’ location, terrorists opened fire onto the security forces. “During the ensuing heavy exchange of fire, 10 terrorists have been killed while one terrorist has been apprehended in injured condition. Two terrorists managed to escape,” the ISPR statement added. A cache of arms and ammunition, including IEDs, were also recovered.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), heavy weapons including artillery and mortars were used in the firing by Afghan forces. “Pakistani border troops have given befitting albeit measured response against the uncalled for aggression but avoided targeting innocent civilians in the area,” the statement said. It added that Pakistani authorities have approached their counterparts in Kabul to highlight the “severity” of the situation, demanding “strict action to obviate any such recurrence of the incident in future.”

The personnel killed in the attack on the convoy have been identified as Subedar Azhar, Lance Naik Ibrahim, Lance Naik Sajid, and Sepoy Zulfikar. A Baloch “pro-independence” armed group, the Baloch Liberation Army on Saturday took responsibility for the attack. A press release from the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the operation was underway since December 24 when the IED exploded close to the leading party. “Resultantly, Captain Fahad along with four other brave sons of soil, Lance Naik Imtiaz, Sepoy Asghar, Sepoy Mehran and Sepoy Shamoon, have embraced martyrdom, laying their lives in defence of the motherland against an externally perpetrated threat of terrorism,” the ISPR press release reads. Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) claimed the responsibility for the attack.
