According to Daily Times, a Christian man acquitted on charges he blasphemed Islam was in hiding to escape death threats issued by the outlawed Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT). Anwar Masih received the threats from LeT in Lahore, said Joseph Francis, coordinator with the Centre for Legal Aid, Assistance and Settlement, a Christian rights group. In December 2004, a court had exonerated Masih of the charge that he had insulted Islam and ordered the man to be freed, Francis added. "The people from the militant organisation frequently visit his family and demand that he (Masih) be handed over to them," he said.

Three terrorist groups, while declaring their opposition to the April 2005 Srinagar-Muzaffarabad service, have threatened to disrupt it. "This will weaken the idea of Kashmir uniting with Pakistan. This is a conspiracy by India to weaken Jihad," Mufti Abdur Rauf, a spokesperson for the outlawed Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), told Associated Press. "We will see what benefits India wants to get from this bus service. If it infiltrates spies into Azad Kashmir [Pakistan occupied Kashmir] and there is an increase in atrocities by Indian security forces in the occupied Kashmir, we will certainly try to stop it," he said. Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM) chief, Syed Salahuddin, is reported to have that the bus service was unimportant and would not improve the plight of people in Jammu and Kashmir. "The bus service is a failed effort to put ointment on the wounds of Kashmiris," he said in a statement issued from Muzaffarabad. Separately, a former spokesperson of the banned Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), Yahya Mujahid, told AFP that "This cosmetic gesture will not curb the demand of freedom by Kashmiris."

According to Daily Times, Dr. Amina Wadud, who is set to become the first Muslim woman to lead a Friday prayer to a mixed congregation on March 16, has received death threats, leading to a change of venue. Dr Wadud, who teaches Islamic Studies at Virginia Commonwealth University, said the idea of having a woman imam (prayer leader) was not a revolutionary step, but a return to the true spirit of Islam. "Islam is growing, and it is an ongoing situation, and Muslims need to be proactive members of this experience," she said.

"The military is not keeping its words," Haji Muhammad Omar, ‘commander’ of the Mujahideen from Ahmadzai Wazir tribe in South Waziristan, told Dawn. He claimed that ‘sector commanders’ of the Mujahideen from South and North Waziristan had met last week at a secret location and decided to co-ordinate and launch simultaneous attacks on security forces if there was a further escalation in the situation. The 41-year-old Omar, who succeeded Nek Muhammad after he was killed during a missile attack in June 2004, said the Mujahideen resented the way the military rescinded from their promises and killed and harassed them.
