The Supreme Court (SC) on May 20 scrapped Government's decision to appoint non-lawmakers as Cabinet Ministers, deeming the act as unconstitutional, reports The Himalayan Times. A single-bench of SC Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana had issued the verdict. With the Apex Court's decision, seven Ministers in the current Council of Ministers - Ram Bahadur Thapa, Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, Prabhu Sah, Lekhraj Bhatta, Mani Chandra Thapa, Gaurishankar Chaudhary and Dawa Lama - have been relieved of their posts. Earlier, a writ petition was filed by advocates Biraj Thapa and Kapil Dhakal citing that the Ministers that had lost their House of Representatives (HoR) seats should be relieved of their posts as their appointment was an unconstitutional move.
