The Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres blasted the house of a former Maoist Uday Mahto of Pirtand block in Giridih District on November 3, and also set a rest room on fire in the same locality under the Pirtand Police Station in the District, reports The Pioneer. According to reports, suspected Maoists numbering 120 cadres raided the house of ex-Maoist Mahto near Bhirangi Mor in Madhubhan area and triggered a dynamite blast blowing up the house of Mahto, who recently surrendered before the Police. They also set the rest house on fire in the same locality, the Police said, adding, nobody was present in the two houses during the incident. Both the families were residing elsewhere following threats from Naxalites [Left Wing Extremists (LWE)]. No person has been injured in the blast. Giridih, Superintendent of Police (SP), Akhilesh B. Varrier, who confirmed no casualty took place, said Maoists tried to terrorise their colleagues mulling the surrender option and harmed the Parasnath Action Plan by blowing up the under-construction shed meant for poor palki-bearers, adds The Telegraph.

Union Home Minister (UHM) Rajnath Singh on November 5, reiterated his commitment to strongly back up Chhattisgarh in its fight against Naxal [Left Wing Extremism (LWE)] menace and asserted that leftist militants have to give up violence, reports The Pioneer. “Maoists have no future in India, they have to abandon the path of violence otherwise they will have to,’’ the UHM Singh warned the Leftist insurgents while addressing the glittering the fife-day concluding ceremony of ‘Rajyotsav-2016’ at Naya Raipur. He felicitated 18 individuals and two institutions with `Rajya Alankaran’ at the function. Singh lavished praise on Chief Minister Raman Singh for carrying out excellent development works in Chhattisgarh. Earlier, Chief Minister Raman Singh while remembering former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee said that formation of Chhattisgarh has ensured the speedy development of this region. “Today we are gaining success on Naxal front and we are able to develop the Naxal-hit areas. This has been made possible only with the greater help extended by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh,” the Chhattisgarh CM remarked in his speech. He also thanked the union home minister for sanctioning Bastar Battalion and assured that the battalion will be raised within a period of 6 months.

The Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres allegedly tortured and killed a 23-year-old youth on the suspicion that he was a ‘Police informer’ in Balaghat District on November 11, reports The Times of India. The body of the youth identified as Kartik Dhurve, a resident of Bondari village under Pathari Police outpost under Malajkhand Police Station, was found on a road. "Several armed Naxals [Left Wing Extremists (LWEs)] kidnapped Dhurve on November 9 and threatened the family members that they will kill him, if they informed police," Balaghat Superintendent of Police (SP), Amit Sanghi, said. He added, "They did not report the matter to police. His body was found on Friday. There were severe injuries on his skull and it seems they attacked him with some sharp-edged weapon." Sources said that they suspected him to be ‘Police informer’. However, Police denied that he was an ‘informer’. "They may have seen him talking to some senior Police officials at some point of time and suspected him to be an informer," said an official, pleading anonymity. While abducting him the Naxals had introduced themselves as Maoists, though they didn't disclose the name of their 'Dalam' (squad).

Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) activities are likely to suffer a major setback following the scrapping of INR 500 and INR 1,000 notes as the rebels may find it difficult to dispose of their cash, apparently in hundreds of crores, concealed in insurgency-hit regions of Chhattisgarh, Police have claimed, reports Indian Express on November 13. According to sources, Naxals [Left Wing Extremists (LWEs)] have stashed over INR 70 billion at their dumps in Bastar region. Following the move, the State Police have beefed up security at banks, ATMs and other economic establishments in the insurgency-affected pockets, particularly Bastar. “As per intelligence inputs, the ban on higher currency has frustrated the Naxals and they may target ATMs, banks, post offices and other business establishments in near future in the areas of their presence,” Special Director General of Police (anti-Maoist operations) D M Awasthi said. According to Awasthi, Maoists collect crores of rupees through levy and extortion and keep cash with them or in the dumps in forests for their activities and distribution among their cadres and supporters.

A company of women Central reserve Police Force (CRPF) has been designated to fight against Left-Wing Extremism (LWE) in State, reports The Times of India on November 14. The women will also conduct search operations in Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) dominated areas of Jharkhand. The women company under CRPF's 135 Bn (Battalion) carried out a search operation against Maoists at Karra and other Maoist-stronghold areas in Khunti District on November 12. The company engaged in a mock drill through the hour-long search operation. A CRPF official said that women forces of CRPF are well-trained to handle all kinds of weapons such as INSAS (Indian Small Arms System), AK-47, hand grenade. He said that female forces have undergone rigorous training to face any battle against the rebels. Inspector General of Police (IGP), MS Bhatia, said that the unit will be deployed at all Maoist dominated Districts of the State. IGP, Bhatia, said that since a large number of female cadres have joined the LWEs, it will be easier for the women CRPF to gauge the operations in such cases. He said that the State has adequate male Para Military Forces. When asked about the deployment of female constables, Bhatia said that it would be decided as per the requirement of the Red zones.

During the past two years, Police have seized 45 automatic weapons from the Naxals [Left Wing Extremists (LWEs)] during various anti-Naxal operations that happened in the restive Bastar region, claimed Inspector General of Police (IGP) (Bastar) SRP Kalluri, reports The Pioneer on November 14. “Police and paramilitary forces have achieved commendable success in the fight against Naxals in North Bastar region. Similar kind of operations would be carried out in other parts of Bastar,” IGP Kalluri said. He further said that joint operations are being carried out concurrently in all parts of Bastar region. Speaking on the backdrop of killing of Mundagaon Naxal LOS (local organisation squad) ‘deputy commander’ Boti Kashyap at Narayanpur wherein a 12 bore gun a Self-Loading Rifle (SLR) and other items were seized, the IGP said that whatever Security Forces (SFs) get after encounter or searching are made public. He said that from June 2014 and by 2016, 45 automatic arms have been recovered from Left-Wing Insurgents. Notably, according to a report of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (UMHA); during the same period 1,915 arms have been recovered from Left Wing Extremists from various parts of the country. There is no Maoist [Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist)] presence in the region. The picturesque Nallamala hills can very well be developed into a tourist spot,” said Director-General of Police (DGP) N. Sambasiva Rao, at a media conference at Ongole in Prakasam District on November 13, reports The Hindu. It was from Nallamala, the largest stretch of undisturbed forest, top Maoist leaders including Akkiraju Haragopal aka Ramakrishna aka RK, came out for talks with the then Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy Government in 2004. Justifying the combing operations along with Odisha in the Andhra-Odisha Border (AOB), he said only when peace prevailed in the State’s neighbourhood; development would be possible in the State. They had even misled the High Court by first filing a habeas corpus petition and then withdrawing it, he said, adding “We are used to such tactics.” “Vizag’s safety is linked to that of our neighbour [Odisha]. We have made a lot of sacrifices to ensure a congenial climate for development in the State,” he said referring to the long history of the Naxalite [Left Wing Extremism (LWE)]–Maoist insurgency in the united Andhra Pradesh.
