The Policeman posted at Jangla Police Station limits was abducted by the Maoists while he was returning from his duty, said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sukhnandan Rathore. Thakur had earlier worked as a Special Police Officer (SPO) during Salwa Judum movement and was later appointed as Assistant Constable.

Two Mizos, Sanglianthanga and Lalzawmliana, who were abducted along with a non-tribal, Deep Mondal, by the Bru militants and the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) on November 23 2013 were released on January 15, reports Times of India. The trio was abducted by NLFT and Bru National Development Front of Mizoram (BNDFM) from the abandoned Chikha anti-poaching camp inside Mamit district's Dampa Tiger Reserve on the Mizoram-Bangladesh-Tripura border. Police said the three persons were held captive inside Bangladesh for 55 days. Deep Mondal, who worked with a private telecom company, has not been released yet, a senior state Police official said. "The released hostages and their guides are likely to reach the Mizoram-Bangladesh border by Friday. They were kept in a forest in Bangladesh as the abductors feared the state police might make a rescue attempt," the official said.

Three suspected militants were killed while five others arrested by the Security Forces (SFs) during a search operation in Zaidi area of Khuzdar District in Balochistan on January 15, reports The News. Deputy Commissioner Syed Abdul Waheed Shah said that the security forces and Levies force had been conducting a joint search operation in Zaidi area when armed men opened fire on them. The SFs returned the fire, killing three suspects. They also arrested five suspects. Two security men also sustained injuries. One abducted person and heavy weapons including ammunitions were also recovered from the possession of the suspects.

Over 20 armed Maoists, wearing police uniform, raided the house of Gyani Yadav in Rangkala village and killed his wife Siya Devi by pumping bullets into her chest, officer in-charge of Jhajha Police Station Sumit Kumar said. The report also states that situation in the North-East has shown an “overall improvement” in 2012 and 2013 except in Meghalaya where casualties have gone up mostly because of extortion and abduction. In Meghalaya militant activity is mainly concentrated in the Five Garo Hills Districts: West Garo Hills, East Garo Hills, South Garo Hills, South West Garo Hills and North Garo Hills. Adjoining West Khasi Hills, which has a substantial Garo population, is also affected by the Garo hills militancy states an MHA report, reports The Telegraph on September 2. Further from 2007-14, 423 militant-related activities were reported in Meghalaya. During this period, 487 militants were arrested, 95 were killed and 173 surrendered. On September 13, five Nepali militants, identified as Bashu Chetry, Nabraj Koirala, Netra Bahadur Ghaley, Dhiraj Majhi and Bhagat Sarki of a newly floated organization United Gorkha People’s Organization (UGPO) were arrested by a joint team of Army and Police from Matijhora in Kokrajhar District, reports The Sentinel. Two 9 mm pistols, one 7.65 mm pistol, two country–made pistols and ammunition were recovered from them. Kokrajhar Police stated that around 26 Nepali boys received training at a camp in Myanmar through the Isak-Muivah faction of National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-IM) and added that after returning they started working for the IK Songbijit faction of National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB-IKS). Further, the Police stated that NDFB-IKS was outsourcing activities like kidnapping and extortion to these individuals and that they may have a hand in the abduction of four Bhutanese nationals on August 8. Defence Spokesman stated, “These terrorists of UGPO might have been used by NDFB-IKS to fill the void to continue their terrorist activities in the area without attracting attention of SFs as inhabitants of Matijhora (Dubri District) and adjoining villages are all Nepalese."
