Assam Home Secretary G.D. Tripathi told that though the blockade continues, some vehicles carrying fuel and other essential items crossed into Arunachal Pradesh with police escort. He said efforts are being made to persuade the protesters to lift the blockade. “The deputy commissioner of Sonitpur and other authorities have been asked to take all necessary steps to clear the blockade,” he said. Several organisations, including Arunachal Agrasan Patirudh Samitee, Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS), All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), Assam Jatiya Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union (AAGSU) and All Koch-Rajbongshi Students Union (AKRSU), have jointly imposed the blockade. A complete shutter-down strike was observed in parts of Balochistan on April 8 in response to a strike called by the Baloch National Front (BNF) protesting the military operation in Kalat District on April 7, 2014, reports The Express Tribune. A BNF spokesperson said that SFs had launched the operation against locals after suffering a defeat ‘at the hands of the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) in Kalat and Nushki Districts’. BLA ‘spokesperson’ Mirak Baloch said his armed men brought down a gunship helicopter in Kalat and killed several SFs personnel in response to the operation. “After facing tough resistance, the SFs carried out shelling on the local population and targeted innocent Baloch people,” Mirak said. "Though Malkangiri comes under Dandakaranya region, the bandh failed to evoke any response here," said a source at Malkangiri. However, Maoist posters in huge numbers were spotted in interior pockets of Mathili block, which shares border with Chhattisgarh. The posters urged locals to cooperate during the bandh period. The Maoists had dug Kiang-Udaigiri road under Mathili Police Station limits at several places to restrict movement of vehicles. Police said security arrangements were enhanced in view of the bandh call and no untoward incident was reported. "As Mathili comes under operational area of the DKSZC (Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee), the guerillas damaged an interior road," Malkangiri Superintendent of Police (SP) Mitrabhanu Mohapatra said.
