The EC said that 1,669 votes were cast out of total 1,677 votes, while eight voters remained absent in the election. In the Electoral College established in each province, Chairperson of the Rural Municipality, Vice-Chairperson of the Rural Municipality, Mayor of the Municipality, Deputy Mayor of the Municipality and Members of the Province Assemblies were the voters of the NA.

The EC on February 8 said it would submit the final election result to President Bidhya Devi Bhandari by February 14, reports The Himalayan Times. Election Commissioner Narendra Dahal told that the poll panel would announce parliamentary proportional representation election result on February 9 and write formal letters to political parties to recommend names of winners within three days from the closed list they had submitted prior to the election. As per the constitution, the EC has to submit result of the election of the parliamentary election within a week of announcing the final result.

Government of India (GoI) have assured Naga groups, political parties and armed organisations that all options including re-elections in Nagaland are open, whenever an accord is finalized with Isak-Muivah faction of NSCN (NSCN-IM) and other Naga groups, reports Indian Express on February 12. Elections are expected to be held on February 27 in the state and results will be declared on March 3. Additionally, in recent discussions, with NSCN-IM, GoI has also reportedly assured that the militant cadres may be absorbed after arriving at a solution, reports Indian Express. According to an official, ‘There are a few options that we are looking at and we have sought an opinion from the rebel groups. One of them is to raise an All Naga Indian Reserve Battalion (IRBN) at the disposal of the state but the Centre can help fund and train them’.

The election monitoring groups said the LG elections ended at 4 pm on February 10 was the most peaceful election held in the island's history, reports Colombo Page. The head of the Center for Monitoring Election Violation (CMEV), Dr. Paikiasothy Saravanamuttu said, "We can conclude that Election Day and the campaign period leading up to it was one of the most peaceful on record." Similarly, Campaign for Free and Fair Elections (CaFFE) Executive Director Rajith Keerthi Tennakoon said that even though this is the biggest election in the entire history with over 52,000 candidates, generally a peaceful environment prevailed throughout the election period. Another election monitoring group, The People's Actions for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFERAL) has deployed about 7,000 well-trained and well-equipped volunteers as observers for the Local Government Elections.

Nagaland may be the next State in the Northeast to update the 1951 National Register of Citizens after studying how the first-of-its-kind exercise in Assam pans out, reports The Hindu on July 26. Assam undertook the exercise in September 2015 and published the first draft with names of 19 million people, on December 31 last year. The second draft for the remaining 13.9 million people is scheduled to be published on July 30 (today). Nagaland Chief Secretary Temjen Toy t stated on July 26 that ‘We are contemplating an exercise to undertake NRC. We will initiate after seeing its success in Assam. Illegal migrants are becoming a major issue for the State’. Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has announced ‘spot verification’ of documents of non-indigenous people from July 31 and asked its border units to be vigilant against influx of undocumented people from Assam.

Mizoram State officials stated on July 27 that Election Commission of India (ECI) has accepted the Mizoram Government's suggestion to conduct electoral revision of Bru tribals, currently lodged at six relief camps in Tripura, once they return to Mizoram, reports The Telegraph. Earlier, the poll panel had instructed the state election commission to undertake revision of Bru voter list in six relief camps in Tripura, which was vehemently opposed by Mizoram Government. Home minister R. Lalzirliana stated that electoral roll revision of the Bru voters would be conducted after they return to Mizoram and that they will not be allowed to exercise franchise outside Mizoram.

The candidate, Hayatullah Khan Rahmani, was also a ‘commander’ of the local public uprising forces. According to officials, three of Rahmani's family members were also killed. According to officials, the incident happened when Rahmani was on his way from Kot District to Jalalabad city, the provincial capital. On July 1, 2018, the only Sikh candidate Ottar Singh Khalsa was killed in a suicide bombing in Jalalabad city.

The State Election Commission (SEC) on September 20 notified Municipal elections for 10 districts of the State including six in Jammu region and four in Kashmir for second phase of Municipal elections while 48 candidates have so far joined the electoral fray during just two days of notification for Phase-I notwithstanding the boycott call given by two premier political parties including National Conference and PDP besides CPM and BSP for first phase of the voting, scheduled to be held on October 8. While election process for entire Jammu, Rajouri and Poonch districts, which will go to polling in first phase of Urban Local Bodies’ elections, was set into motion on September 18, the Commission on September 20 initiated the exercise for six more districts of Jammu region including Kishtwar, Doda, Ramban, Udhampur, Reasi and Kathua. With this, only Samba district has been left, where electoral exercise will be initiated on September 22 in the third phase of voting.

The State recorded an overall polling of 74 per cent in the nine phases of Panchayat elections, with the last phase on December 11 witnessed 38.8 per cent voting, Jammu and Kashmir election officials said, reports Daily Excelsior. In the nine phases, Jammu recorded 83.5 per cent voter turnout, Ladakh 67.8 per cent and Kashmir 41.3 per cent, they said. The polls passed off peacefully amid tight security with no untoward incident despite a boycott call given by separatists and the lurking threat of violence by terrorists, they said. The official said the first phase on November 17 recorded 74.1 per cent voting overall, followed by 71.1 per cent in the second phase on November 20, 75.2 per cent in the third phase on November 24 and 71.3 per cent polling in the fourth phase on November 27. In the fifth phase, 71.1 per cent voting was witnessed on November 29, 76.9 per cent on December 1, 75.3 per cent on December 4 and 79.9 per cent voter turnout was recorded in the eighth phase on December 8. In Jammu region, the first phase recorded 79.4 per cent voting followed by 80.4 per cent in the second phase, 83.0 per cent in the third phase, 82.4 per cent in the fourth phase, 85.2 per cent in the fifth phase, 84.6 per cent in the sixth phase, 84.8 per cent in the seventh phase and 85.1 per cent in the eighth phase. Similarly, Kashmir division recorded a turnout of 64.5 per cent in the first phase followed by 52.2 per cent in the second phase, 55.7 per cent in the third phase, 32.3 per cent in the fourth phase, 33.7 per cent in the fifth phase, 17.3 per cent in the sixth phase, 30.3 per cent in the seventh phase and 49.6 per cent in the eighth phase. Ladakh, which is part of Kashmir division, recorded 65.2 per cent voting in the first phase, 66.4 per cent in the second phase and 70.9 per cent in the third phase, the officials said. The results were announced for eight phases, while the results of the ninth phase are in progress.
