Media reports quoting Royal Nepalese Army (RNA) sources said that 30 security forces (SFs) personnel and 10 Maoist insurgents were killed and 23 others injured in fierce fighting between SFs and a group of Maoists, numbering around 1500 to 2000, in the Bhojpur district on March 3. Reports added that the insurgents have looted rocket launchers, self-loading rifles, semi-automatic rifles and other weapons from the troops before fleeing. However, the SFs foiled the insurgents' attack on the district administration office, Rashtriya Banijya Bank and a tower of Nepal Telecommunications.

Katari Bazaar is a major commercial centre of the district that attracts traders from the northern districts like Okhaldhunga, Solukhumbu and Khotang. Those refusing to pay are allegedly tortured by the insurgents.
