They were working with the ‘finance section’ of the PULF. One extortion note relating to the PULF outfit was recovered from them. Three People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) cadres were also arrested from different areas of Imphal on the same day. During another search operation, one UNLF cadre was arrested on January 28. One Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) cadre, Laishram Senapati alias Freedom Singh, was arrested from BT Road near Sahid Minar gate in the Imphal West district on January 29. He confessed that he was working under two other KYKL cadres, Santa and Mohen.

Assam Police foiled a plan of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) to hijack a plane from Guwahati airport to Pakistan and arrested three persons on February 10 for their alleged involvement in the conspiracy, UNI reports. ULFA’s 709th battalion’s Manoj Tamuly alias Randip Baruah alias Kamal Das alias Haloi alias Pathak and his fiancee Dharitri Sarma, also an ULFA militant, were arrested from Panjabari Bagorbori area of Guwahati. During interrogation, Manoj confessed that the ULFA had planned to hijack a plane from Borjhar and to take it to Pakistan. “I have had my training on plane hijack in Bagsa district under R. K. Ahmed, an Afghanistani,” Manoj said, adding that, “We have also been assigned to assassinate three non-political leaders of the State who are vocal against the ULFA’s theory of independent Asom.” Based on his confession, a prominent advocate Nekibur Zaman was also arrested. The house of a human rights activist, Lachit Bardoloi, was raided while a television journalist Pradeep Gogoi was arrested from Tinsukia.

Police arrested four surrendered militants belonging to the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) for their involvement in instigating the tribals to occupy a government land near Raj Bhawan in Agartala, UNI reports. Police said Ananta Debbarma, a surrendered NLFT militant, along with his associates had hatched a conspiracy to bring the poor tribals from different parts of the State to encroach on the land at Malancha Niwas and its adjacent areas. Police carried out a massive eviction on February 26 and drove out over 450 tribal families from the land. At least 25 illegal occupants were injured when they tried to resist the police in the eviction drive. About 100 people mostly tribal women were detained during the raid.

The police recovered an AK-47 rifle with nine rounds of ammunition and a pistol from their possession. The DGP stated that Robert was a "corporal" in the KYKL ranks, but had never been arrested. An arrested KYKL cadre, Laishram Homen alias Korou, is suspected to be one of those who planned the selective killings. The DGP also said the police were on the trail of four more KYKL members who killed five migrants in Imphal East district the day after the Heiyen Hangool attack. The KYKL, however, denied its involvement in the killings.

Three National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) militants who along with HNLC militants were opening fire on police personnel managed to escape from the encounter site. Four SBBL shot guns, two AK-56 assault rifles and 33 rounds of live ammunition, a country-made .22 revolver, two Chinese-made hand grenades and two sets of Japanese-made wireless handsets, three torches, a mobile handset and two authorisation letters for extortion were recovered from the encounter site. According to police sources, the HNLC and NLFT ran a joint camp at Wahlymbong for about two months to extort money from coal traders and businessmen of Jaintia Hills. The encounter took place when police personnel raided a militant hideout in Umkiang area following the arrest of 6 HNLC militants, including an 'area commander’ Syrpailin Mawlong alias Bhalang, and a courier Riskin Phawa, during a search operation in Malidor area and Umkiang village on March 26. Ten rounds of live ammunition of 12 bore pistols, seven rounds of 12 bore fired cases, eight live and five spent rounds of ammunition of AK-47 rifles, 18 live and seven spent rounds of .22 pistols, two blank detonators, 500 grams of explosive, one improvised explosive device (IED), wires, one 7.62-mm magazine of LMG and one rotating block of AK-56 were seized from the camp. Tayep Ali, from the militants’ captivity when they neutralised a major hideout of the group after a brief encounter at Wakhurok under Patsoi Police station on May 26, reports Imphal Free Press. While 16 other militants managed to escape, one 9-mm pistol, camouflage uniforms, jungle boots, hats, caps, utensils, and gun pouches were recovered from the hideout. Two women sympathisers, identified as Sanjenbam Indira and her younger sister Pratima, were also arrested while they were sharing information with the escaped cadres of the outfit. The report added that Tayep was abducted by the KCP militants on May 22 and was later tortured for allegedly smuggling drugs. A team of police led by Superintendent of Police, West Tripura district, KV Sreejesh carried out a raid in the house of Satyajit Roy at Bhati Abhaynagar in northwest Agartala, which was later described as a hideout of the ATTF militants and their collaborators to assemble explosive devices with timers. During the raid, a bomb diagram, one memory card of mobile set and other ingredients used in making bombs were recovered. On being questioned, the house owner said that three tribal youths took the room on rent few days back and fled away on October 4 without informing him. West Tripura district Superintendent of Police, KV Sreejesh said that this raid was a major breakthrough to establish the link between ATTF and Harkat-ul Jihadi Islami (HUJI) of Bangladesh behind October 1 serial blasts in Agartala.

On October 12-night police picked up a worker of the Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT), one 50-year-old Budhi Debbarma. Additional Superintendent of Police, V.Z. Angami who led the search operations said ten persons, including a lady, were arrested from one hideout while remaining four persons were arrested from another place. Police recovered eight mobile handsets, one 7.65 pistol with five rounds, one .9mm pistol with eight live rounds and some documents from their possession. Police said the fourteen arrested were part of the same gang, which had earlier abducted three drivers belonging to Food Corporation of India in Manipur. While two drivers were released after they reportedly paid INR 8, 000 to the abductors, the other driver identified as Asem Angou, a resident of Lambia Challou in the Imphal East district in Manipur, who was kept in confinement for non payment of ransom, was rescued by police on November 6.

A Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) hideout was neutralized when an encounter took place between militants and a combined team of the Army and the Bishnupur District Police at Tharopat in Ngaikhong Mamang Leikai of Loktak lake area on December 31, reports Imphal Free Press. Army sources said automatic weapons, assorted ammunition, explosives, landmines, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), Chinese grenades and propaganda material including pamphlets and CDs were recovered. The recoveries included two AK-56 rifles, 12 AK magazines, 174 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, 177 rounds of AK-56 ammunition, 50 rounds of .22 ball ammunition, 20 UBGL grenades, 15 anti-personnel mines, one Chinese grenade, eight sets of combat uniform, one television, one generator, six gas cylinders, IED material and explosives, ruck sacks and pouches along with other war like stores and three country boats.
