A combined team of Tengnoupal District Police arrested two persons from Moreh Ward No 7 along with assorted arms and ammunition in a search operation in in Tengnoupal District of Manipur on January 25, reports E-Pao. Superintendent of Police (SP) of Tengnoupal District Police, Th Vikramjit, said that the search operation was conducted by a combined team of Tengnoupal District Police at the residence of one Thangminlun Haokip of Moreh Ward No 7, Chavangphai village, and during the operation, two pistols with two magazines, one single barrel gun, one 0.22 rifle, one live ammunition of AK-47, 7.65 ammunition-18 in number, 20 empty cases of 7.65 mm ammunition, 34 live ammunition of 12 bore gun and 4 mobile phones were recovered from the house. Manglimat Lhungdim (25) from Mollum village in Churachandpur, who was currently residing at Moreh Ward No 7 and house owner, Thangminlun Haokip (31) were also arrested from the spot and handed over to Moreh Police Station along with the seized arms and ammunition.

Three workers, abducted by Kuki militants in Manipur, were rescued by Security Forces (SFs) from the Kamuching forests following an encounter with the militants in Imphal East District of Manipur on February 12, reports Nagaland Post. The Police said the armed Kuki militants abducted the workers at gunpoint on February 7 when they were busy in the construction of a bridge at Leikhong near Nongpok Keithelmanbi in Thoubal District. The SFs subsequently launched a massive combing operation in possible locations and mountainous areas and the hostages were traced at the Kamuching forests. “Sensing the presence of security forces, the extremists fired at them, leading to a fierce gunfight that lasted for over two hours late on Friday [February 12] evening,” a Police official said. The Kuki ultras during the encounter managed to escape taking advantage of the thick forest and hilly terrain leaving behind the captives.The SFs subsequently rescued the three workers and recovered an AK-47 rifle from the forested areas.

Modern technology was used too, but the topography has made the efforts very difficult,” R.P. Upadhyaya, Director-General of Police in Arunachal Pradesh, told journalists.On December 21, 2020, ULFA-I militants had abducted Quippo Oil and Gas Infrastructure Ltd’s employees, drilling superintendent Pranab Kumar Gogoi from Assam’s Sivasagar district and radio operator Ram Kumar from Bihar, from a hydrocarbon drilling site in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district.

According to sources, the Assam Police intercepted a bolero vehicle bearing registration number MN 01S 1680 at Lahorijan Patrol Post of Karbi Anglong District in Assam. 50 soap cases containing 646 grams of heroin meticulously hidden inside the rear tail light of the vehicle was recovered during the search operation. A preliminary investigation revealed that the drugs was carried from Manipur and was suppose to be delivered at Guwahati’s Kamrup Metropolitan District in Assam. Speaking at a press conference, Superintendent of Police (SP), Dr S Ibomcha Singh informed that based on the reliable information about the presence of some active cadres of PREPAK-pro in and around Lairikyengbam Makha Leikai to commit pre-judicial activities like hurling of bombs and planting Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) at private business centre, shops, etc., the commando teams conducted Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) at some suspected houses during which one active PREPAK-pro cadre identified as Naoroibam Joyshankar Singh alias Loyumba alias Khougang (37) son of N Inaocha of Lairikyengbam Makha Leikai was arrested from his house at 5 am. Joyshankar joined PREPAK-pro in 2009 through one Herojit from Salanthong and got basic military training for three months at Ngayensong, Myanmar under Army No 39914 of 39th batch, the SP said and informed that the accused is a ‘self-styled Lance Corporal’ and worked under the command of the outfit's ‘self-styled captain’ Jiten and ‘chairman’ Subhash alias Palheiba alias Muni. The recoveries included one set of IED fitted in a tin fish can, a Chinese hand grenade, one air gun rifle, four PEK cakes, three electronic circuits, one remote control device, three detonators, 10 batteries of 3.7 volt, three batteries of 4.5 volt, two batteries of 9 volt and soldering equipment use in assembling IED. On preliminary questioning, the captive stated that he had threatened one Naoroibam Boge of Lairikyengbam Makha Leikai by lobbing two Chinese grenades and triggered explosion in the paddy field near his house on Tuesday (September 21) around -12:30 am. He was also involved in IED attacks at the CM's Bungalow Gate on August 10, 2013 and at Route 39 restaurant at Mantripukhri on August 17, 2013, the SP said.

On October 28, three militants of Nikki Sumi-led faction of National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K-NS) were arrested for allegedly involved in blank firing in four different locations in Dimapur District of Nagaland, reports News 18. According to Police sources, a complaint was registered in West police station regarding blank firing at three different locations – Nepali Basti, Residency Colony and Notun Bosti in between 1.25 am to 1.38 am. Later, that day, another incident of firing was reported at Landmark Colony. Based on the information and CCTV footage, a search operation was launched and a suspected vehicle carrying the three militants was apprehended. The three militants were identified as Nikato Pilot Sumi, supervisor of the Ceasefire Supervisory Board and kilonser (minister), Awang Konyak, self-styled ‘sergeant major’, and Wahkoi Konyak, self-styled ‘sergeant major’. HK 33 rifle, two magazines of HK 33 rifle, one Italy-made 7.65mm pistol, one magazine of 7.65mm pistol, one magazine of 9mm pistol, 117 live rounds of HK 33 rifle, 17 live rounds of 7.65mm pistol, six empty cases of HK 33 rifle, two empty cases of 7.65 mm pistol, one rifle sling, one knife and INR 1,82,700 in cash were recovered from them.

Two militants belonging to different proscribed outfits have been arrested in separate incidents in Thoubal and Imphal East districts of Manipur on November 14, reports East Mojo. Acting on tip-offs, Assam Rifles (AR) personnel along with Manipur Police launched search operations and arrested a People’s Liberation Army (PLA) militant in Thoubal and a Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) militant in Imphal East District. The KCP militant was allegedly involved in planting an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Khurai area in Imphal East District. The identities of PLA and KCP militants are yet to be ascertained, however, both were handed over to Thoubal and Porompat Police Stations respectively for further investigation.

On November 15, three militants belonging to the Yung Aung faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-KYA) were killed in an encounter in Longding District of Arunachal Pradesh. As per Police sources, the militants had abducted village chief Ranwang Lowang and ex-ASM Sunwang Hakhun of Laho village in Longding District on November 14 to get their due ransom amount from the villagers before November 20. During a search operation launched for the abducted persons, the militants were intercepted along the international border of India-Myanmar and a fierce encounter ensured. Three militants were killed while one Assam Rifles (AR) personal sustained injury in hand. Three AK series rifles, ammunition and warlike stores were recovered from the possession of the slain militants. Later on in another search operation, the Tirap District Police recovered Sunwang Hakhun from the eastern bank of the Tissa river and Laho village chief Ranwang Lowang from the jungle towards the west of Laho village.

During a search operation, arms and ammunition including one AK 81 Assault Rifle with three magazines, one AK 86 Assault Rifle with three magazine, one M-16, A4 UBGL (40 mm grenade launcher) with one magazine, one M-16 Assault Rifle with magazine, one RPG launcher, one RPG shell, 13 AK 56 Assault Rifles with 13 magazines, 39 mm live ammunition (200 nos) and 5.56 mm live ammunition (10 nos) found hidden beneath a cowshed were recovered. On December 17, the self-styled ‘chairman’ of newly formed militant outfit Karbi Democratic Liberation Front (KDLF), identified as Jackson Ronghang was killed in an encounter in Rongmongve area of Karbi Anglong in Assam, reports The Assam Tribune. Following information about the presence of the militants in the Rongmongve area, a search operation was launched. It was during the operation, Ronghang was killed in the gunfight while two other militants fled from the spot. A pistol, several cartridges and some documents were seized from the possession of the slain militant.
