The surrendered ULFA cadres were identified as Bhaimon Changmai alias Nabin Dutta and Bina Payeng alias Rimi Bora. The militants were involved in many operations, including bomb blasts, in and around Guwahati besides recruitment drives in lower Assam. The surrenedre militants were identified as Jitu Das alias Lachit Deka alias Paraou alias Bipul, Dwijen Deka alias Ashanta Hazarika, Chitra Boro alias Sagar Saikia, Akhil Das alias Raju Saikia, Niranjan Bezbaruah alias Bhaity, and Guru Prasad Das alias Garu Basumatary alias Gunojeet Haloi. The militants said that they were getting increasingly disillusioned with the manner of functioning of the outfit, especially their top leaders, which made them quit it and return to the mainstream. The militants deposited a Chinese pistol, an Italian pistol, three pressure grenades, and some ammunition of 9 mm pistol, .38 pistol and .32 pistol.

They deposited one SLR and hundred rounds of live cartridges, police said. The insurgents were staying in a base camp at Khagracherri in the Chittagong hill of neighbouring Bangladesh with their family members from where they escaped before the surrender. Another five insurgents - two from the outlawed All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) and three from the NLFT surrendered on May 8 before the Commandant of the Sixth battalion of paramilitary Tripura State Rifles at Teliamura in the West Tripura district. According to Telegraph, 39 militants, including 31 cadres of the ‘709 and 27 battalions’ of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA), surrendered before the Army at the headquarters of the 21 Mountain Division at Rangia , about 45 kilometres way from Guwahati, on August 28. The others included five Karbi Longri North Cachar Hills Liberation Front (KLNLF) cadres and cadres from the All Adivasi National Liberation Army (AANLA). The surrendered militants deposited a huge cache of arms and ammunition, including pistols, revolvers, grenades, detonators and gelatine sticks. During the time of their surrender, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (central-western range) G.P. Singh said the police have established contact with the leaders of the ‘709 and 27 battalions’, who are expected to declare a cease-fire soon. Meanwhile, the General Officer Commanding the 21 Mountain Division, Major General Chander Prakash, stated that widespread disillusionment in ranks of the ULFA had led to several rounds of recent surrender by the ULFA cadres.

A senior militant of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA), identified as Hasmut Ali alias Jahangir Ali, surrendered before the East Garo Hills District Police at Bajengdoba in the morning of December 29, according to Shillong Times. He laid down an AK-81 assault rifle, a hand grenade, three magazines and 71 rounds of AK ammunition. The militant was trained at several ULFA camps in Bangladesh bordering Garo Hills, and was made a ‘lance corporal of the 109 battalion’ of the outfit. He belonged to the 2006 batch of ULFA militants.
