According to a press release issued by Tripurapolice.nic.in, one militant belonging to National Liberation Front of Tripura-Biswamohan Faction (NLFT-BM) identified as Nitush Debbarma (25) alias Naikhol, surrendered before Security Forces (SFs) at Amar Border Outpost (BOP) under Vangmun Police Station in North Tripura District on January 14. The militant deposited One Carbine, 03 Magazines and 90 round ammunitions of Carbine. In addition, one militant belonging to Borok National Council of Tripura (BNCT) namely Rabindra Reang (26), surrendered before SFs at Kumpui under Vangmun Police Station in North Tripura District. During surrender the militant deposited one .22 mm Pistol, One Magazine and three rounds of ammunitions of .22 mm Pistol.

Eight militants of the newly-formed outfit Muslim Protection Tiger Force (MPTF) surrendered before Security Forces (SFs) in Kokrajhar District on February 9, reports Indiabooms.com .The militant group, led by Hafizur Rahman, area commander of the outfit, surrendered before the top police and army officials at Gossaigaon. The militants deposited three .9mm pistols, two 7.6mm pistols, three handmade rifles, one hand grenade and 14 rounds of ammunition.“The militant group was formed in 2012 during the ethnic violence in lower Assam,” a top police official said.

Four cadres of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF) and one each of the People's United Liberation Front (PULF) and PLA surrendered along with five pistols, one carbine and two grenades to the BSF inspector general (frontier headquarters) Manohar Lal Batham, a BSF official said.

Four militants belonging to the Anti-Talks Faction of United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA-ATF), including a senior leader, on February 16 surrendered before SFs in Tinsukia District, reports Zee News. Among the militants who laid down their arms is senior ULFA-ATF leader Rahendra Moran alias Guli Asom, Parikshit Moran, Champak Hazarika and Kushal Buragohain. Rahendra Moran alias Guli Asom was responsible for the ULFA-ATF's extortion related activities in the upper Assam Districts. Militants deposited one AK-47, two .9 mm pistols, eight bottle grenades, four Chinese made hand grenades and other assorted weapons.

Two militants of the IK Songbijit faction of National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB-IKS), surrendered before the officers of the Red Horns Division of the Army and Police at Kokrajhar District on March 5, reports The Sentinel. The two surrendered militants were identified as ‘second lieutenant’ John Islary alias Jwngsar and N Jangkrithai alias Jigkanta Narzary (26). John Islary was the former Commanding Officer (CO) of Western Command and is now the CO of the Central Region of the NDFB-IKS. The two NDFB-IKS militants deposited two 7.65 mm pistols, three magazines and 8 live ammunition of 7.65 mm pistol during the surrender.

The Sentinel reports that the Paresh Baruah faction of United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) received a big jolt following surrendering of its 11 cadres before the Deputy Commissioner of Tinsukia (District) at a brief function held at Tinsukia on March 8. The surrendered militants were identified as Monoranjan Gogoi alias Kanu alias Minto Asom, Dipen Saikia alias Raja Asom, Manik Dohotia alias Meghon Asom, Hayanta Saikia alias Joi Asom, Bulen Moran alias Devid Asom, Rantu Moran alias Ashim Asom, Mizo Gohain alias Andhi Asom, Hemkanta Changmai alias Jatin Khanka, Dhania Saikia alias Kancha, Dharmen Sonowal alias Janbha and Raju Moran alias Robit. The surrendered militants also submitted a huge number of sophisticated weapons and ammunitions including four AK –81, four magazines, G.2 SLR assault rifles and its 3 magazines, 7.65 pistol and its 2 magazines, 7.62 pistol’s 25 rounds, 7.62 pistols and 39 AK series live ammunition, five rounds .9 mm ammunition, seven Chinese grenades, 12 bottle grenades, 6 kilograms (kg) RDX powder, seven kg TNT, five packets green gelatin and red gelatin each, 2 numbers mobiles and huge number of olive green uniforms and bags. Bijoy Chinese, Deputy Chief and a close associate of Paresh Baruah, who recently surrendered had stated that a number of hardcore militants were waiting to surrender within a short time. The surrender was a part of the process, Police claimed.

The Shillong Times reports that a militant, identified as Dikki M Sangma alias Bandi of Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) escaped from one of the outfit’s camps and surfaced in Jengjal (West Garo Hills District) to surrender before the Border Security Force (BSF) on March 21. The militant fled from the outfit’s camp located in forests of Chokpot in South Garo Hills District during the night and managed to reach Baghmara from where he boarded a public transport to head to Jengjal where he contacted BSF officials from the field intelligence unit to hand himself over. The militant was a private soldier in the outfit and hailed from Rangdokram village of Baghmara in South Garo Hills. The official surrender ceremony took place at the BSF Station Headquarters in Dobasipara on March 21. During the surrender, he handed over his GNLA identity card bearing army number 111, date of issue 10/10/2011 and valid upto 10/10/2014, which was signed by GNLA ‘commander-in-chief’ Sohan D Shira. The surrendered militant revealed to authorities that he had joined the GNLA in April 2011 and underwent training at Durama Hills of East Garo Hills for six long months.

They came to the officials of Assam Rifles and police along with two hostages. They are the last cadres of the UTLA-SK Thadou to surrender before the Government. The surrendered cadres dep[osited 42 arms that included nine 9mm pistols; two .32 pistols, six 9mm carbine, one UZI (9mm), two shot guns, six Rifle Bolt Action, three AK-47 rifles, one AK-56 rifle, two M-16 rifles, one 40mm lathod and nine country made guns while the ammunitions deposited included six rounds of 9mm pistol, 41 rounds of AK-47 rifle, 15 rounds of M-16, six long cases of .38, 19 rounds of 7.62mm and two lethod bombs. Shambu Singh later described the ceremony as another big step towards peace initiative and appealed to all the underground groups to abjure the path of violence and join the mainstream. The surrenderees include six from Progressive faction of People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK-Pro), two from Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL), and one each from the PREPAK, Peoples Liberation Army (PLA), United Nation Liberation Front (UNLF) and Lamyanba Khuman faction of Kangleipak Communist party (KCP-Lamyanba Khuman). The five cadres surrendered along with five rifles of AK series, 15 magazines and 375 live rounds, informed a Police source. It is said that a formal surrender ceremony would be held sometime later. Of the five surrendered, four were of ‘Lance Corporal’ rank while the fifth one was a ‘Corporal’. Two militants of the Independent faction of United liberation Front of Asom (ULFA-I) faction, identified as Siddhartha Dahotia alias Agni and Ratul Bora alias Anupam, surrendered before Tinsukia Superintendent of Police on November 19 after fleeing from the outfit's base in Myanmar and crossing over to India, reports Times of India. They also deposited one AK81 rifle. Police said the two militants were among nine other militants, who tried to flee Myanmar and surrender in Tinsukia District but were ambushed by their own colleagues in the outfit and Baruah loyalists with the help of Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K) cadres. The duo said one member of the fleeing group was killed in the ambush and two others managed to cross the border but are still traceless. They added that they have no idea about the remaining four militants. Immediately after the two surrendered, ULFA-I ‘publicity wing’ issued a statement confirming the escape bid by nine cadres with one weapon. The outfit added that these nine cadres were moles planted inside the outfit by intelligence agencies. "Two of them managed to escape with one weapon but our special operation group nabbed four and killed three. The nabbed cadres have revealed that they were trained by government intelligence agencies and they got themselves recruited into the outfit by taking advantage of some loopholes in our recruitment drive. They were sent with two objectives-to loot our armory and leak information, " said Joy 'Asom', a member of the’ publicity wing’.

Three surrendered persons whom Police claim to be hardcore members of the outfit did not deposit any weapon. Police identified the three surrendered persons as Walith Marak (23), Sudendro A Sangma (21) and a teenager Tangring R Marak (19). According to Police, the teenager handed himself over on November 30 while the two others gave themselves up on December 2 at Raksamgre under Dadenggre Police station of West Garo Hills District. West Garo Hills Police maintain that the three deserted their camp to join the mainstream. The surrender comes less than a week since three UALA cadres were gunned down in an encounter at Chiokgre village of Williamnagar.
