Authorities in North West Frontier Province (NWFP), on April 22, seized 125 Russian-made rockets allegedly being smuggled from Afghanistan for terrorist attacks in Pakistan. "Some 125 Russian-made rockets were recovered from a truck loaded with animal fodder," said Zahirul Islam, an official in the North Waziristan tribal region where the cache was seized. An unnamed official was quoted as saying that the arrested men were reportedly planning to attack the US Consulate, American establishments and government installations. Meanwhile, an Interior Ministry statement issued from Islamabad said "six suspects have been arrested which include Waleed Muhammad Bin Attash alias Khalid Al-Attash, a Yemeni national, who is suspected to be involved in the US Ship Cole incident." According to the statement, some 200 detonators, one wrist watch timer switch, five touch switches, capacitors of various types, 20 diodes, 46 transmitters, 20 variable controls, Kalashnikovs, hand grenades, pistols, ammunition and a truck load of sulphur, gunpowder and urea bags were recovered.

Police in Karachi have arrested a suspected terrorist of the proscribed Sunni group Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) who had reportedly planned to blow up a vehicle carrying two US diplomats in a suicide attack in year 2002. Hafiz Muhammad Ali alias Saif alias Arif alias Barkat was reportedly arrested after an encounter that ensued after a hideout in the Shirin Jinnah Colony was raided. A rifle and some live rounds were recovered from his possession. The News has reported that Hafiz, an expert in bomb making, has disclosed that he had acquired training at the Khalid bin Waleed camp in Khost, Afghanistan, in 1997. He was also allegedly involved in a number of cases pertaining to sectarian terrorism in Karachi.

Police in Rawalpindi seized a large cache of weapons, including anti-tank and mortar guns, which were to be used in terrorist activity by an unnamed proscribed organization. Deputy Inspector General of Police, Rawalpindi, Israr Ahmed disclosed this at a press conference on May 8. A mortar gun (60mm), 22 mortar rounds, 23 mortar primary cartridge, an anti-tank weapon (PRG 7.5), 30 RPG-7 rounds, 25 RPG-7 booster, 31 rocket (106mm) and 30mm rocket 107 were among the weapons seized. The Karachi Police has arrested four Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) terrorists for their alleged involvement in an attack on a bus carrying employees of the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Committee (SUPARCO) that claimed six lives on October 3 in Maripur. The Inspector-General of Sindh Police (IGP), Syed Kamal Shah told the media on October 22 that the police raided a house in Saeedabad and captured Shahnawaz alias Shan with a Kalashnikov rifle and a pistol. "In the light of disclosures by Shahnawaz, police conducted more raids in Orangi Town and arrested his three accomplices, Muhammad Masroor, Muhammad Jawaid and Muhammad Shamim, with arms and ammunitions," the IGP said. He added that the accused belonged to Asif Chhotu group— a wanted terrorist of the LeJ.
