An Intelligence Bureau (IB) official was arrested with explosives near the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Peshawar, capital of North West Frontier Province (NWFP) on December 5, with Chief Minister Akram Durrani appearing to suggest that he was the target of a bomb plot hatched by the IB, according to Daily Times. Durrani told a press conference that Muhammad Tufail, the IB employee, was arrested by police at around 11am outside his Peshawar office while “trying to plant a bomb” in a dustbin. “We are considering whether the IB is directly responsible for it or if it is the outcome of the grudges the federal government has against the NWFP,” he said, and recalled that his house in Bannu had been attacked in the past. “When the case was registered and Tufail was apprehended, Zafarullah, the IB joint director in Peshawar, rushed to the police station and took away Tufail and the bomb with him,” he said.

Police have arrested 17 people, including five teenagers, on terrorism-related charges, a senior Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) officer told a televised news conference in Toronto on June 3-morning, according to Dawn. All the men arrested were residents of Canada and most were Canadian citizens, said Mike McDonell, Assistant Commissioner of the RCMP. The 12 adults and five youths were reportedly of Pakistani and Bangladeshi origin. McDonell said it was a "home-grown terror cell intent on launching attacks against targets in Southern Ontario" which would have been more devastating than the Oklahoma City bombing. "This group presented a real and serious threat. They had the capacity and intent to carry out a terrorist attack," he added. Police said they recovered three tonnes of ammonium nitrate fertilizer, a quantity three times the amount used by Timothy McVeigh to destroy the federal building in Oklahoma City in 1995.

Security agencies discovered and defused two rockets aimed at the Presidency, Parliament and Cabinet Block on October 5-morning, less than 12 hours after a powerful blast in Rawalpindi’s Ayub National Park, according to Daily Times. Bomb disposal experts said the two rockets were fixed to launchers and hidden in bushes in the green area in front of the important buildings less than a kilometer away. The Russian-made 106mm and 107mm rockets reportedly had a range of 2-3 kilometers. Passers-by spotted the rockets in the green area and informed the police. President Pervez Musharraf was not inside the Presidency when these rockets were found. The police have detained over 200 labourers who were working at a construction site of the National Council of Arts in connection with the incident.
