Police conducted an operation in Azam Warsak village of South Waziristan District on April 10 and recovered the weapons and ammunition looted by militants from a Police Station in Wana on December 20, 2022, reports Dawn. The looted weapons and ammunition were recovered from the house of a person identified as Bin Yameen. According to the statement, the recovered items included one submachine gun, two magazines, one bulletproof jacket, two wireless sets, two mobile phones, three belts, three RPG warheads including boosters, 11 hand grenades, five kilogrammes of gunpowder, 1,126 rounds, three improvised explosive device (IEDs), one gas gun, one torch, two bags, and a helmet. Around 50 militants had stormed a Police Station in Wana on December 20, 2022, and escaped after looting arms and ammunition.

Police on April 12 killed two terrorists of Bajaur Chapter of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) during an encounter at Khat Kalay area of Talash in Lower Dir District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, reports Dawn. Briefing the local journalists at his office, Lower Dir District Police Officer (DPO) Tariq Iqbal said that both the terrorists identified as Burhanuddin and Hafeezullah alias Umar, residents of Alladand in Malakand District, were involved in the murder of a traffic police officer, Bakht Zamin, who was killed in Talash Bazaar on April 4. The DPO said that Police were informed about the presence of the two suspects at Khat Kalay. When the Police team reached the place, the accused hurled a hand grenade at a Police van which did not explode. The terrorists also fired at the Police personnel but they remained unhurt. In retaliation, both terrorists were killed on the spot. Police also recovered two pistols, six cartridges, a hand grenade, two mobile sets and a motorcycle from the militants’ possession.

In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that the IBO was initiated to clear a hideout of terrorists allegedly involved in firing incidents on the Security Forces (SFs) and civilians besides planting of improvised explosive devices on Turbat — Hoshab Road in general area of Gishkore. While the establishment of blocking positions to cut the escape routes was underway, the terrorists opened fire on the SFs, said the ISPR. Three terrorists were killed during the heavy exchange of fire. A cache of arms and ammunition including IEDs were recovered from their possession.

The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) arrested an injured terrorist, identified as Irshad, after an exchange of fire while he was travelling along with his family on Jabbar-Katlang Road in Mardan District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on April 18, reports Dawn. The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on April 18 killed two terrorists associated with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) during a shootout in Rajanpur District of Punjab, reports ARY News. The terrorists were planning an attack on law enforcement agencies when they were neutralized, the CTD spokesperson said. The CTD personnel carried out an overnight search operation in Rajanpur. Terrorists opened fire at the personnel and in a retaliatory fire two TTP terrorists were killed, while three others fled the area by taking advantage of the night, the spokesperson added. In a statement issued, Lakki Marwat Police spokesperson Shahid Hameed said that the operation was conducted in the jurisdiction of the Dadiwala Police Station after security personnel got a tip-off that terrorists were planning an attack on the Abbas police checkpost. “When the security teams reached the terrorists’ hideout, they opened fire at police officials from multiple directions. The police retaliated as well,” he said. Hameed said that when the firing stopped, the Police searched the site and found the bodies of six terrorists. According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), an IBO was initiated “to clear a hideout linked with firing incidents on security forces along M-8, in general area Talsar, Hoshab” on a tip-off about the presence of terrorists. “As a result of continuous intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) of the area, a location of terrorists was identified and security forces were heli inserted [to nab the terrorists].” During the heavy exchange of fire, all four terrorists were killed, while a cache of arms and ammunition including improvised explosive devices (IEDs) was also recovered from their possession, the ISPR added.

According to the CTD spokesman, the Punjab CTD conducted 81 IBOs, in which 83 suspects were interrogated and five terrorists arrested along with weapons, explosives and other prohibited materials. At least 55 IBOs were conducted in different Districts of the province to effectively deal with any untoward incident of terrorism, in which 56 suspected persons were interrogated and 11 alleged terrorists were arrested with weapons, explosives, and other prohibited materials. Among the arrested terrorists, three were cadres of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ), namely Najibullah, Muhammad Tahir, and Abdul Sami, one was cadre of Tehreek Jafaria Muhammad Aftab, four cadres of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) namely Kaleemullah, Manzoor Khan, Niaz Muhammad and Muhammad Zubair, two cadres of Sipah Sahaba Pakistan (SSP), identified as Muhammad Hussain Muawiya and Muhammad Daniyal. The terrorists were linked with firing and improvised explosive devices (IED) incidents along Turbat-Awaran Road and surrounding areas, read the statement. “Based on credible information, multiple ambushes had been laid along different routes in the area frequented by the terrorists for the last three days,” said the ISPR. The Punjab Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) said on November 11 that it has arrested five suspected terrorists linked to banned outfits of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) during operations carried out in different cities of the province, reports Dawn. In a statement issued, the CTD said it conducted 179 intelligence-based operations in Sahiwal, Pakpattan, Bahawalpur, and Rawalpindi and foiled a major terror plot. It said 179 suspects were interrogated, and five alleged terrorists were arrested. According to the CTD, the five alleged terrorists belonged to the banned organisations TTP and LeJ. The statement further said that 565 grammes of explosives, two hand grenades, two improvised explosive devices, five detonators, 13 feet of safety fuse wire, 3.5 feet of primer cords, five pamphlets of banned organisations, 36 stickers, and Rs 5,520 were recovered from the possession of the suspected terrorists.

Upon reaching the location, Security Force (SF) personnel encountered resistance as seven to eight terrorists engaged in gunfire with the SFs, the statement said. RPGs and hand grenades were fired by the terrorists during the encounter. “Later, terrorists tried to flee the scene but the CTD team followed them in hot pursuit. Four terrorists were killed and several others managed to escape using the cover of night,” it added. During the patrolling, when the patrolling team signalled a suspicious vehicle to stop, the vehicle's occupants, believed to be three armed individuals, opened fire on the Police personnel and fled the scene. No Police personnel were harmed in the incident. However, during the pursuit of the fleeing suspects, one of them sustained injuries from Police gunfire and was subsequently arrested. In a statement, the CTD said “The CTD’s LeJ (Lashkar-i-Jhangvi) cell in-charge carried out an action in Patel Para and arrested Hafiz Qasim Rasheed alias Bilal and recovered [a] hand grenade and unlicensed 30-bore pistol along with six bullets from his custody.” It added that the suspect had allegedly orchestrated the killings of renowned Qawwal Amjad Sabri, who was gunned down in 2016 in Karachi, as well as the 2010 killing of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) Raza Haider. Describing Rasheed as a “dangerous terrorist affiliated with banned LeJ”, the official said, “The suspect had run a network inside a jail when he was detained there.” The CTD alleged that he had also been involved in the killing of four Rangers personnel, two Army soldiers and four members of the Shia community from the jail with the help of his accomplices, namely Asim alias Capri and Ishaq alias Bobby. The CTD in-charge Khurram Waris said in a statement that a ‘wanted commander’ of TTP Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Nasrullah was arrested and arms were also recovered from his possession. He said that the accused was wanted in serious crimes including terror financing and terrorism. According to a statement released by the CTD, an operation was planned over information provided by a TTP terrorist, identified as Naseebullah, who was in custody. The CTD added that during the course of an investigation, he revealed the presence of his associates in Quetta and divulged that they were “in advance planning of carrying out a terrorist activity in Quetta soon”. The statement highlighted that the slain alleged terrorists were involved in the killing of officials of the Eagle Squad and CTD in Kuchlak and Frontier Corps personnel at the Kuchlak Bypass. According to CTD spokesman, the terrorist, identified as Farooq Shah, was head of the banned outfit’s provincial student wing and he was wanted in seven high-profile terrorism cases. The CTD officials said that the name of the arrested terrorist was also included in the Red Book as he was involved in several abduction cases.
