On the same day, reports quoting the state Radio sources said an armed group of Madhise Tigers – the breakaway faction of insurgents – have shot dead a Maoist cadre, Upendra Patel, at Jethhariya in Rautahat district. Further, suspected Maoists also shot dead one army personnel, identified as Keshab Sapkota, at Godrung in the Chitwan district.

According to police, the incident occurred in Boda village during an armed clash between cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) and the Sangharsh Jan Mukti Morcha (SJMM), a breakaway group of the Naxalites operating as a private army. The CPI-Maoist had given a boycott call for the February 3 Legislative Assembly elections in the State, while the SJMM is reportedly opposed to the same.

The Hindu has reported that Tamil National Force (TNF), a para-military group under the joint command of the leader of the breakaway Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) faction, Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan alias ‘Colonel Karuna, and the Eelam National Democratic Liberation Front, on February 10 claimed responsibility for the killing of LTTE leader, E. Kaushalyan in Batticaloa district. The claim posted on the official website of Karuna’s group, the TamilEela Makkal Viduthalai Pulikal (TMVP), said the ambush on Kaushalyan was a "direct attack" unlike the killings of some of the supporters of ‘Colonel’ Karuna, who were "shot when they were asleep." The claim was signed by Cheran of the TNF. The Eastern Political wing leader of the LTTE, Kaushalyan, his deputy Nedimaran along with three other LTTE cadres were killed during an ambush at Poonani in the Batticaloa district on February 7.

According to Imphal Free Press, at least two cadres of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF) and one of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland - Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM) were killed, while six persons, including two security force (SF) personnel, were wounded in two separate incidents in the Tamenglong district on February 15. At least one UNLF cadre was killed during an encounter with the SF personnel posted at Mandu village while four others were injured. Reports said two SF personnel were also wounded. Meanwhile, in an attack by cadres of the NSCN-IM on a camp of the UNLF located near Aven village of Tousem subdivision, one cadre each of the two outfits were killed, according to a spokesperson of the IM.

Confirming the loss of life and property in the clashes near Miranshah, North Waziristan Political Agent, Syed Zaheerul Islam, told The News that 17 people were killed and four were injured in fighting that began on December 6-evening and continued the whole night and the next day. He informed that four of the dead were Taliban cadres and 13 were bandits. He said eight houses, including those used by bandits for gambling and other activity, were destroyed and set ablaze by Taliban and their supporters. Neither the political administration nor the Pakistan Army, deployed in North Waziristan, reportedly intervened to stop the clashes or arrest the people involved in these clashes.
