At least 31 persons were killed when Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants attacked Ansarul Islam (AI), a pro-Government militants group, in Tirah Valley of Khyber Agency in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) on January 26, reports Daily Times. About 300 TTP militants, armed with mortars and Rocket-Propelled Grenades (RPGs), launched the overnight assault in the Maiden area of Tirah Valley, a maze of valleys on a route from Afghanistan to Peshawar. The AI cadres retaliated, killing 15 TTP militants and capturing eight others, while three villagers, including an elderly woman, were killed in crossfire. TTP militants also killed 13 AI cadres.

At least 41 people including eight Policemen were injured in clashes with Jamaat-e-Islam (JeI) and its student wing, Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) during the second day of dawn-to-dusk countrywide hartal (shut down) enforced by JeI-ICS on February 6, reports The Daily Star. At Siddhirganj in Narayanganj District, JeI-ICS cadres equipped with iron rods and sharp weapons swooped on Police. At least 15 people including three Policemen suffered injuries during the clash. At Paribagh in Dhaka city, Badrul Hasan (30), an Assistant Superintendent of Police, was injured during a chase and counter-chase between the law enforcers and the stick-wielding pro-hartal cadres. Police arrested two cadres from the spot. In Rajshahi city of Rajshahi District, nine cadres were arrested for attacking the Police. At Batiaghata in Khulna District at least 15 people including two Policemen were injured during a clash between JeI-ICS cadres and the Police. At Raiganj in Sirajganj District, at least 10 people, including two Policemen were injured as JeI-ICS cadres clashed with them. The injured Policemen are Tazul Huda, officer-in-charge (OC) of Solonga Police Station, and Ali Farid Ahmed, OC of Sirajganj Highway Police.

Eight militants were killed and 15 others received injuries as the militants of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Ansarul Islam (AI) clashed in Bhuttan area of Tirah valley in Khyber Agency of Federally Administered Tribal Area (FATA) on February 12, reports Dawn. The renewed clashes, which started on February 11, continued on February 12 without any letup. Sources said that TTP launched a fresh offensive against AI in Bhuttan area and inflicted losses on it. AI claimed that it had strengthened its hold over two important bunkers in Dwa Stanai area and recaptured Rocket Sangar. Both sides used heavy weapons against each other.

Meanwhile, at least 65 people, including 14 Policemen, were injured in clashes between JeI-ICS cadres and the law enforcers in Satkhira, Noakhali and Khulna Districts on February 12. In Satkhira District, seven Policemen were wounded in attacks by the JeI-ICS cadres and Police arrested 103 cadres in the District. In Noakhali District, at least eight JeI-ICS cadres were injured when they fought a pitched battle with Police. In Khulna District, at least 50 people, including seven Policemen, were injured when the JeI-ICS cadres clashed with law enforcers. Seven cadres were arrested after the incident on charge of attacking Police and obstructing law enforcers in discharging their duties.

The sources said that over 299 fighters of TTP descended from Drey Stani hilltop, bordering the Kukikhel area, to Narkhaw area populated by Qambarkhel Afridi tribe in AI-controlled Maidan part of the valley in the evening of March 12 and occupied two dozens of houses. Subsequently, around 600 volunteers of AI from different parts of Maidan moved to Narkhaw and launched the counter-attack. The sources said the fighting between the groups was going on till filling of this report. They said that 10 TTP militants and six volunteers of AI were killed and 12 others from both sides were injured. A ‘commander’ of AI for Narkhaw area was also among the dead. Police sources said five Maoists were abducted from Gaya District in Bihar late on July 31 and the dead are two among them. The dead have been identified as ‘sub-zonal commander’ Neeraj Kumar Yadav and ‘area commander’ Baleshwar Yadav. Meanwhile, Police have found the body of another CPI-Maoist cadre from Aana village under Chandwa locality in Latehar District. Latehar Superintendent of Police (SP) Michael Raj said one more person is suspected to have been killed in the incident. However, Police are searching for the body. Further, the Latehar SP said an encounter took place between the cadres of TPC and Sangharsh Jan Mukti Morcha (SJMM), another splinter CPI-Maoist outfit, for supremacy. Nagaland Post reports that heavy exchange of fire between Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland –Khaplang (NSCN-K) and NSCN-Khole-Kitovi (NSCN-KK) took place at Amahator village on November 18. Amahator village is located 15 km away from Kiphire (District) town. According to the village council chairman, Thsisepi Sangtam, a group of NSCN-KK arrived at Amahator village in the afternoon but, on the arrival of Assam Rifles, the group left the village. However, in the evening, both the factions met in the heart of the village, which led to heavy exchange of fire between the two groups. No casualty was reported till the time of filing this report.

One Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) militant was reportedly killed and scores injured in a factional clash with Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM) near Lukhambi Part-1 or Khumji village in Tamenglong District on November 26, reports The Sangai Express. An unofficial source said that the encounter was between a combined force of ZUF and Khaplang faction of Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-K) with the NSCN-IM and added that the IM group decamped with a gun. Also, ZUF ‘information secretary’ A Dangmei has said his outfit (ZUF) has been stretched to the limit by the NSCN-IM. “We will, from now on do what is needed,” said A Dangmei, warning that ZUF will be on the look out for the NSCN-IM cadres. A Dangmei said the ZUF cadres have been confining in secluded places these days so that no stand offs occur during this festive season.
