A 30-year-sportsman, identified as Parmeshwar, was killed and two others were injured after suspected Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres fired at them in Chhattisgarh’s Rajnandgaon District on January 28, reports The Times of India. District Superintendent of Police (SP), Sanjeev Shukla, said three Maoists opened fire at them during a Kabaddi match in Umarpal village under Khudgaon Police Station limits of the same District. While the Police are yet to ascertain the exact reason behind the attack, however they suspect that since Parmeshwar's brother is posted as an Assistant Constable with Lohttar Police Station, the Maoists might have targeted him.

Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres killed an alleged ‘police informer’, Sonalal Hansdah, in the busy market area at Harladih, 30 kilomteres from the District headquarters of Giridih on January 28, reports The Times of India. According to Police, a group of about 40 Maoists entered the market and caught Sonalal in the busy market. They slit his neck with sharp weapons and left a leaflet, claiming he was a ‘police informer’. The Maoists shouted slogans, warning they would physically liquidate those having nexus with the Police in open public places. They stayed in the market for an hour.

A journalist and one paramilitary personnel were among the dead, said Assistant Political Agent Fazal-i-Qadir. The bomb targeted people from the pro-government Feroz Khel tribe, who have shops in the market, he said. Assailants riding a motorcycle fired at the car of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) prosecutor Chaudhry Zulfizar Ali in the busy commercial area of Karachi Company at 7.30am. Ali, who was driving, was hit by several bullets and lost control of the car. The vehicle hit a woman crossing the road and she too died later in hospital. His bodyguard, Frontier Corps trooper Farman Ali, was injured in the attack. The assailants managed to escape after the shooting. Babar had served as an SHO at many ‘high-threat zone’ Police Stations in the city. Earlier, he was posted at the CID’s Anti-Extremism Cell (AEC). During his time in the AEC, he had played an active role against terrorists.
