On April 1, acting on the information provided by an arrested Kuki National Front (KNF) cadre, the police recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition belonging to the United National Liberation Front (UNLF) and KNF from Khongsai Veng under Porompat police station in the Imphal East district. The cache included 74 electronic detonators, 75 ordinary detonators, a .38 pistol with one magazine, and 16 rounds of .38 ammunition, two 30 mm anti-aircraft shells, 169 rounds of .303 rifles, communication devices, nametags and badges of the outfits. Three terrorists of the UNLF and KNF were also arrested subsequent to the recovery.

A MZP statement said that, Lalrinawma, a student of the Kanhmun High School, was kidnapped by the BNLF on March 29. Meanwhile, on March 30, the kidnappers, who claimed to be members of a faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) reportedly released the student in return for a ransom amount of Rupees 25,000. Police said that a group of 11 cadres had escaped from a hideout in the neighbouring Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh on April 6 along with arms, ammunition and cash. They were chased by another group of about 25 and a gun-battle ensued at Padmamohanpara in which three members of the first group were killed, three injured while five others managed to escape and surrender to the Border Security Force (BSF) at Banshibari outpost in Dhalai district. The five who surrendered before the BSF deposited one AK series rifle, two SLR and cartridges.

According to official sources, all the three persons were parents of PREPAK cadres who had surrendered on April 23. Claiming responsibility for the attacks, a PREPAK spokesperson told local media that the action was necessary to warn those cadres who wanted to surrender and disclose party secrets to the Government.
