On September 6, the Assam Chief Minister (CM) Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the Union government is likely to sign a peace accord with militant groups from the Adivasi communities of Assam within this month, reports The Telegraph. Without sharing any detail, he said that the entire process is being carried out under the initiative of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. A senior official from the Assam Police headquarters said that five militant groups namely All Adivasi National Liberation Army (AANLA), Adivasi Cobra Militant of Assam (ACMA), Birsa Commando Force (BCF), Santhal Tiger Force (STF) and Adivasi People's Army (APA)are likely to sign the peace agreement. "These groups have been in ceasefire for many years after announcing Suspension of Operations. Their cadres live at designated camps under police protection," the official said.

The Union Government, on September 7, has extended the ceasefire agreement with the Niki Sumi faction of the Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-NS) for one more year, reports Northeast Now .“The ceasefire agreement is in operation between government of India and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (K) Niki group and it was decided to extend the pact with the group for a period of one year with effect from September 8, 2022 to September 7, 2023,” a statement from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs said.

Akthar Hussain Lashkar, a resident of Assam, is under investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for having links with the proscribed terrorist outfit Al-Qaeda and is charged with radicalising youths as well as conspiring to send them to Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) and Khorasan province of Afghanistan to undergo terrorist training, reports Daily Excelsior on September 17. A First Information Report (FIR) reveals the fact further mentioning that Lashkar also provoked youths to wage war in the name of religion. Lashkar, a resident of Theltikar village in Cachar District of Assam and presently residing in the Thilaknagar area in Bengaluru, was found indulged in activities relating to “radicalization of youth through social media, involvement in provoking youths to indulge in treason against India and inciting communal violence by projecting that Indian forces are committing atrocities on Muslims in Kashmir”. “Further, the aforementioned accused had conspired to send the radicalized youth to Kashmir and Khorasan province of Afghanistan to undergo terrorist training and wage war against India and had links with Al-Qaeda and other entities and handlers from foreign countries for carrying out terror-related activities across India,” reads the FIR. The NIA FIR was filed on August 30 against Lashkar and one Abdul Alim Mondal alias Md Juba, a native of Kultali, Godabar, Tangrabichi, South 24 Parganas of West Bengal and presently residing at Salem in Tamil Nadu. Both were booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 10, 13, 15, 16, 18 and 20 of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). The FIR is based on a case earlier registered by Bengaluru Police on July 24. Bengaluru Police received information on July 24 against Lashkar that he had created Telegram groups namely “The Eagle of Kohrasun” and “Hinder-Eagle” and had radicalized the youths. Later, the investigators found, that the accused conspired to send the youths to Kashmir and Khorasan province of Afghanistan to undergo the radicalised youths’ terrorist training and provoked them to wage war in the name of religion. Investigator also found that Lashkar had tried to carry out “disruptive activities” in India. “He is having links with entities and handlers from Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan for the terror-related activities.

United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Chairman T R Zeliang claimed that the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak Muivah (NSCN-IM) has agreed to resume peace talks with the Centre to try to resolve irritants to the Naga peace talks, reports Indian Express on September 19.United Democratic Alliance is the ruling coalition of Nagaland. This comes after a two-hour long meeting among state government’s core committee on the Naga political issue and representatives of the NSCN-IM in Chumoukedima on September 17. Out of total 5,202 arrested, 2,606 persons have been charge-sheeted in connection with the cases to date and "most of the cases are under trial and one person has been convicted", the report said. The conviction of the lone militant took place in the Lakhimpur District in 2012. No other militant has been convicted since then. Of the arrested people, the highest 2,392 number was from militant groups formed by Bodo people, followed by 1,468 from United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) and 582 from Karbi groups, 346 people from Adivasi groups, followed by 178 from Garo, 155 from Muslim, and 81 from Rabha communities.

The Special Court of National Investigation Agency (NIA) Manipur, on September 28, has approved the application filed by the agency to thoroughly investigate the case related to the killing of non-locals at Kakching and Huikap allegedly by eight cadres of People’s Liberation Army (PLA) including a juvenile, reports Imphal Free Press. The Court also directed the officers of Yairipok police station to hand over all the seized materials and documents of the case to the NIA.
