In addition, the outfit has also agreed to reduce the strength of its cadres in the remaining five camps. The agreement was reached in Thimphu following negotiations in June between a government delegation led by Home Minister Lyonpo Thinley Gyamtsho and the ULFA leadership represented by finance secretary Chitraban Hazarika and adviser Bishnujyoti Buragohain. The government and the ULFA are scheduled to meet again to deliberate on the remaining camps in Bhutan. He also reiterated the AASU’s commitment to detect and deport the post-’71 immigrants and foreigners living in the State. He went on to criticise the Illegal Migrants (Determination by Tribunals) Act, 1983 saying that the Act protects the interests of post-’71 infiltrators, including those of the agents of the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) of Pakistan, and makes it possible for them to operate freely in the State. He also urged upon all concerned to cooperate with the AASU for the repeal of the Act and close up the foreigners’ issue once and for all.

United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) Chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa called for a referendum in the State to decide the issue of sovereignty for which the outfit is fighting.
