Sentinel quoting intelligence sources reports that Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) was involved in circulation of fake Indian currencies in Assam and Meghalaya in the second week of February. Meghalaya Police, on February 25 appealed to all citizens for information regarding such activities on fake currency circulation. Further, Assam Police arrested two persons and recovered fake notes worth INR 39,500 from them on February 28. The youths were carrying fake currencies from Udalguri and Goreswar to the Guwahati city. The report added that ISI agents chennelised fake currencies to Karimganj, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Goalpara, Goreswar. Besides, the ISI reportedly has motivated local youths by providing mints for making fake notes in areas like Dhemaji and Lakhimpur.

ANLA militants confine the persons abducted by them in Naga villages and hideouts, and give a part of extorted money to their Naga aides. As the soldiers approached the residence of one Jiba Gogoi, the militants, armed with sophisticated weapons, reportedly opened fire. While two militants — self-styled sergeants major Nipon Borgohain and Biplob Konwar of the “Bravo” company of the 28th battalion of the ULFA — were killed in the three-hour encounter, the third managed to escape. An AK-56 rifle, two magazines, 58 rounds of ammunition, an improvised explosive device weighing 12 kg and several documents were recovered from the slain militants, who were identified on the basis of their Nagaland-registered driving licenses.
