The Maoist attack was apparently a reprisal to an earlier incident where the villagers had handed over a few Maoist cadres to the administration. The Maoists had apparently come to the village and forced the villagers to pay donations.

Two Maoists, Darpan and Gaurav, were killed by a security force (SF) patrol team at Chuntakura in the Dailekh district. Another Maoist was killed in an accidental bomb blast while he was trying to plant a bomb at a house in the Bharatpur municipality of Chitwan district. In another incident, a Maoist insurgent, identified as Rupen Rai, was killed in a SF action at Soyang in the Ilam district.

According to Kantipur Daily, over 200 schools in the western district of Baglung and around 100 schools in the south-western district of Nawalparasi remain closed for the past week amid Maoist threats. Almost all the schools outside the district headquarters in Baglung district, including Burtibang, Galkot, Bihu and Gwalichour, have been closed after the Maoists announced that the schools compulsorily start lessons in "Janabadi" (pro-people) education and students should join their ‘people’s militia.’ Hundreds of teachers have reportedly fled to the district headquarters fearing Maoist ‘action’ against them. In Nawalparasi, nearly 100 schools were closed down and the study of over 30,000 students affected due to the call of Maoist affiliated Nepal Teachers’ Association to close down schools from May 3.

The Government has reportedly decided to compensate families of 11 villagers hailing from Somani Bargadawa in the Kapilavastu district who were killed by the Maoist insurgents on April 15. The Kapilvastu District Administration Office (DAO), following an order from the Home Ministry, has allocated Rs.150, 000 to each victim’s family. Similarly, the DAO has decided to compensate the 15 families whose houses were destroyed by the Maoists during the attack. On April 15, the insurgents had killed 11 villagers who they claimed were members of an anti-Maoist 'resistance group'.

A group of five Maoist insurgents shot dead Narayan Prasad Pokhrel, chairman of the World Hindu Federation (Nepal chapter), at Dudharachha village in the Rupandehi district on May 6. Nepal News, quoting British Broadcasting Corporation, has reported that a Maoist-affiliated Dalit Mukti Morcha (Dalit Liberation Front) leader said that their organisation had decided to ‘eliminate’ Pokhrel for allegedly "indulging in various crimes in the disguise of religion." According to reports, Maoists blamed Pokhrel for indulging in sexual exploitation, amassing property illegally and trying to garner popular support in favour of the monarchy.

During a press conference in Kathmandu on May 6, the Royal Nepalese Army (RNA) spokesperson, Brigadier General Dipak Gurung, said that over 4,000 Maoists were killed in counter-insurgency operations launched by security forces since the collapse of the cease-fire on August 27, 2003. Further, he said that a total of 432 soldiers were also killed during operations. The RNA stated that insurgents have killed a total of 96 non-combatants in the last eight months. Further, they have abducted over 11,000 civilians, caused explosions at over 100 places and were responsible for over 50 incidents of looting and arson and opened fire at four different places during public gatherings during the period. Gurung added that the RNA might make the Maoists stand trial in the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for killing unarmed security force personnel in their captivity.

Reports from the far-western district of Kanchanpur indicated that the security forces (SFs) have repulsed a Maoist attack targeting the security base of the Armed Police Force (APF) at Gadda Chowki on May 30. According to Nepal News, hundreds of insurgents arrived at the APF base at around 7:30 pm (NST) on tractors and opened fire from three or four positions simultaneously. The insurgents left after a nearly three-hour long gun battle. The number of fatalities, however, has not been stated thus far. SF sources claimed there were heavy casualty on the Maoist side and that they took away bodies of at least half a dozen insurgents along with them.
