Meanwhile, the Jamaat al-Ahrar, the new faction of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), has claimed that only 30 fighters were killed so far in the ongoing operation Zarb-e-Azb by the Pakistan Army in NWA. In a statement sent to the media, the Jamaat al-Ahrar ‘spokesman’ Ehsanullah Ehsan said the SFs’ claim of killing 910 militants was baseless and unfounded. He said the media had been presenting one-sided reports to the people without confirming these from independent sources. He claimed that some five dozens civilians had been killed during the shelling on the populated areas in NWA.

The strife in the ranks of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) escalated on September 4 as its 'chief' Maulana Fazlullah and his shura expelled the Mohmand Agency chapter 'chief' Omar Khalid Khurasani and terminated his membership for indiscipline and for patronizing ‘suspicious’ militants groups such as Ahrar ul Hind and Junood Khorasan, reports The News. Omar Khalid Khurasani, whose real name is Abdul Wali, reacted through his aide and spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan, who said Maulana Fazlullah and some of his men having vested interest had been expelled from the TTP.Ehsan is now spokesman of TTP Jamaat al-Ahrar, which was recently launched by Khurasani and other 'commanders' after accusing Fazlullah of failing to run TTP as a disciplined organisation due to lack of leadership qualities. The TTP statement was issued by its ‘spokesman’ Shahidullah Shahid, who said Fazlullah had endorsed the shura decision to sack Khurasani as the head of the TTP Mohmand Agency chapter for aligning with a suspicious organization like Ahrar ul Hind and patronizing Junood Khorasan inside the Afghan Taliban movement to harm its shadow government of Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. The statement charged Khurasani and his men of conspiring to create differences in TTP and weaken its cause.

Punjabi Taliban 'chief' Ismatullah Muawiya on September 5 said it would abandon insurgent activity inside the country and redirects its energies towards Afghanistan, reports Dawn. Muawiya said the faction will operate in Afghanistan under the guidance of Mullah Omar, the spiritual leader of Afghan Taliban, while its activities in Pakistan will be confined to preaching Islam. Punjabi Taliban is an influential militant faction of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The announcement indicates further fragmentation in the umbrella TTP, which suffered a setback on September 4 when a new bloc declared its split from the group's official leadership. The groups within TTP have not accepted Mullah Fazlullah, which has caused a serious split in the organisation.

Al Qaeda’s South Asia branch on September 11 had claimed responsibility for the September 6 raid on the West Wharf Naval dockyard in Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh, that left a sailor and three attacker’s dead. A statement in Urdu from the group sent to AFP claimed that the target of the raid was a “US supply ship” and said the dead attackers included former Pakistan Navy officers. Al Qaeda said the officers quit their jobs and joined the militants after becoming radicalized. Defence Minister Khawaja Asif had voiced concerns while addressing Parliament on September 10, saying: “We cannot rule out the inside help in this attack because without it the miscreants could not breach security. The operation near Karachi shore was an attack by al Qaeda in the subcontinent.” It is the first attack claimed by the terror network’s new wing, whose creation was announced by ‘Chief’ Ayman al Zawahiri on September 3. The claims, made on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks in New York, will likely add to concerns about extremist infiltration of the Pakistani military’s ranks after the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), who also claimed to be behind the attack, said they received inside help.

Three militants, a suicide bomber among them, and a Policeman were killed in a fierce clash which followed an attack on Thall Police Station in Hangu District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on September 15, reports Dawn. Pakistan on September 16 rejected Afghanistan’s accusations regarding involvement of Pakistani intelligence agencies in terrorism across the border, reports Daily Times. “We express our dismay at the latest allegations levelled in the statements issued by Afghanistan’s National Security Council and Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Repeated attempts by the Afghan side to implicate Pakistan’s intelligence institutions in terrorist activities are both unfounded and counter-productive,” Foreign Office (FO) said in a statement. “It has been stressed by us, time and again, that Pakistan remains committed to disallowing its territory to be used against any country. We would not allow anyone to breach Pakistan’s laws in this regard or to undermine our goals of fostering friendly and cooperative relations with neighbouring countries,” it said. “At the same time, we believe that the threat of terrorism is best addressed through mutual cooperation,” the statement added. The Foreign Office said, “Pakistan’s firm resolve to combat this menace, without any distinction or discrimination, is concretely manifested in the ongoing military operation Zarb-e-Azb. It is imperative that complementary actions are taken by the Afghan authorities on their side of the border. Elimination of terrorist sanctuaries and handing over of TTP elements that have taken refuge in Afghanistan are the first important step s in that direction,” the FO said.

In a statement issued by TTP ‘spokesman’ Shahidullah Shahid said Hasan, who hailed from Kabul, was killed in clashes in Boya area of NWA. The statement added that Hasan had recently been released from an Afghan prison and had "reunited with his comrades" in Pakistan. The TTP also claimed that the clash in Boya began when local Taliban, Mehsud fighters and the TTP launched a collective attack on Pakistan Army personnel, adding that it caused significant losses to the military. The TTP claimed that its command and control structure was intact and rejected Government claims regarding the killing of local and foreign fighters during the ongoing military operation.
