The explosion took place on the morning of April 14, killing nine people and injuring 25 others. Police suspect that involvement of a suicide squad. Even as the police were conducting a recovery and evacuation operation there was a second blast in which one policeman received minor injuries. Senior police officers who were on the spot found similarity of the bomb with those planted at Kotalipara targeting the Prime Minister and the Udichi function in Jessore, earlier in the year 2000.
